“Fantastic Arabian character in the heart of Bur Dubai”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

Staying here was a wonderful experience which started with a complementary cold drink on our arrival at 2.30am. An upgrade to a suite on the 6th floor certainly impressed but the character of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff couldn't be better. May not suit business people who need the new parts of the city or those wanting a beach resort, but for real atmosphere of the old Dubai its a must. The metro makes getting to the Malls etc very easy.

Room Tip: If you score an upgrade to the 6th floor you have a great stay.

This hotel was recommended to us by friends who had done a Dubai stopover there in the past. I had done some research and we also had other suggestions from our travel agent. Ultimately our choice was this particular hotel for the following reasons:

Although it is not in the category of many glitzy Dubai hotels it is very comfortably furnished in a more traditional manner, which to us was very relevant. It is in the older area of Dubai, so we were exposed to the hustle and bustle and culture of a busy, historic part of Dubai, which we really enjoyed.
It overlooks the Dubai Museum, and one of the stops for the Big Bus Tour hop on hop off bus is nearby, which is very useful for touring around. It is also close to the Old Souk.

It is closer to the Airport than many of the hotels, which was important to us as we had an early flight out of Dubai to Paris. We arrived in Dubai very early in the morning and though our room was not ready it was suggested that we could use our breakfast component and make ourselves comfortable until it was ready. The breakfast in the main dining room was very comprehensive. Breakfast on our second day was in the smaller Executive lounge/dining room - as we had booked an Executive Room and Breakfast package - well worth the extra price. The breakfast menu choice was not as extensive in that area - but that was not a problem for us. One can avail oneself of the Executive lounge during the day as well - and a Happy hour provides 3 free drinks in the early evening. The service here was impeccable.

Our room was beautifully appointed and comfortable with ensuite bathroom. There was great hanging space and room for clothes. We had a view out of the window over the Museum and to the Creek beyond. The bed was huge and very comfortable with efficient airconditioning - as it was extremely hot outside.

We had a snack one night in the Sherlock Holmes Bar. It has a huge TV screen that seems to have non stop cricket on it - a bit noisy - but quite fun. Snack food very tasy - and it does serve alcohol, which may not apply to the main dining room - but that was not a problem for us, as it is most important to observe the customs of a country when visiting.

Throughout our stay all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - the Arabian-garbed welcomer Daisy or Sai (as she is also known) gave excellent advice - helping us especially in helping us get our boarding passes printed out for our onward journey - thus saving us much time at the Airport for our departure. One of the other young men helped us identify a restaurant from a photograph I had taken on our cruise along the Creek, and rang it to make a booking for us. Little kindnesses make such a difference.

So, if you want a comfortable, pleasant hotel with a more traditional feel to it - you cannot fault the Arabian Court Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose the Executive package. It gives you access to the private Executive lounge/dining room. Also...

I had only one night in Dubai while on a stopover. I chose this hotel for its access from the airport, location in the older Dubai and proximity to Dubai Creek. And for the décor in its website pics: it looked to have an more Arabic styling, which was more appealing than a generic hotel. I arrived around 6:30am and did not mind paying the fee to be able to check in earlier – it would be a long wait until 2pm! There was a private lounge to relax in, and I was able to check in just an hour later.

The room was medium-large with interesting architectural features and a view over the Dubai Museum across the road. Room and bathroom were clean and comfortable with all mod cons, even a clothes line to pull across the bath. I was puzzled though, when so many other useful things were available: bathrobe, ironing board etc – why there was no hairdryer. However, reading reviews here, others have mentioned hairdryers; maybe mine had been ‘removed’ by a previous guest.

The pool area was not huge but it was sheltered and private with some shade, a good area to relax by during the heat of the day, and bar service right to my lounge chair was welcome. I must say I hadn’t expected this in the UAE (my first visit) so it was a pleasant surprise. The pool was unsatisfying to swim in though, as the water was blood temperature, but that is due to the climate of course.

The staff in reception were very attentive and helpful, especially the porter in theatrical Arabic costume and twirly moustache who whistled down a taxi for me, and another doorman who helped identify the driver who was to take me to Abu Dhabi.

I would happily stay here again rather than in Dubai’s ritzier and no doubt more expensive establishments.

Ended up here after a flight delay and Emirates booked us into the Copthorne at the airport. The coach driver got it wrong and dropped us all off at the Arabian Courtyard. The staff coped well with the unexpected guests and were all most helpful with all the rearrangements to catch our flights at various times. They automatically sorted all the taxis, room calls etc.
I was only there a few hours but the room was excellent and had a superb view down over the textile souk and Dubai Creek. It was right opposite the Old Fort.
It's not the most attractive of frontages and not one of the smartest parts of Dubai but it was right in the middle of what history there is in Dubai.
The meal provided for us was a buffet and maybe not the most inspiring meal I've ever had but when you're flying long haul, jet-lagged, delayed and downright tired, it's difficult to judge.

Spent 3 nights here in the middle of May. We had booked an executive room with museum view but on arrival we were upgraded free of charge to the executive suite (room 606). Free wi- fi was included.

The hotel is located opposite the Dubai Museum so the location is right in the heart of Old Dubai.

It took about 20 minutes in a taxi to the Burj Khalifa and around 45 minutes to get to the Marina however this is very much dependant on the traffic.

The staff were really friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very large with a separate living area. The English pub on site (Sherlock Holmes) was a nice place at night with live entertainment. They had special offers on some drinks ( Carling 20AED a pint). However be carefull if they give you popcorn because this costs another 15AED!

The pool area although small is a nice hideaway in the midday sun although it did appear that many of the sunbeds were reserved with towels but the people were not present!

We ate in the Indian restaurant at the hotel and the food and entertainment were superb.

They run a courtesy shuttle to the airport which we were not aware of going to the hotel but we used this on our return to the airport.

We highly recommend this hotel for value for money and would stay here again if in Dubai.

Room Tip: Worth paying for the executive room.

1night stay
Helpful staff, very pleasant atmosphere. Arrived early and took early checkin option for extra cost.
Don't bother booking it online as it's first come first served when you arrive and the price is more in hotel to online.
Very comfortable and clean. Giant room and bathroom, all well appointed and opulent feeling and furnished.
Excellent buffet breakfast with many Western options.
Good location to canal and souks. Cheap taxi ride to airport. Dubai museum opposite is worth cheap entry and good landmark to identify hotel.
Is a known hotel to service providers.
Didn't stay long so didn't explore options to main street and other sights.
Would recommend.
