Food was good but not as amazing as the reviews here made it out to be. It was well presented, with good portions but lacked the real flair of a top quality restaurant. It seems there is a very well equipped kitchen inside but I think it required some leadership and craftsmanship within the kitchen to really bring out the best of the ingredients, and the kitchen staff. The ambience was really nice, most customers chose to sit outside on the dirt and gravel, god knows why as the indoor decor was beautiful.
The ethical restaurant is an admirable idea, but I wonder if the staff are paid a fair wage and not just given accommodation, food and education. I do hope so.
Value-wise unfortunately other restaurants on tripadvisor do offer better value. Understandably in order to run a restaurant which also caters to the employees' accommodation and educational needs there are additional costs compared to conventional eateries, but that isn't really the point here, we just want excellent food at a bargain!
Mango salad at $3.75 is too much, and spring rolls for $3.50 (4 pieces) was very high for local standards, so locals are priced out!
I hope the two owners are not offended, but take this review as constructive criticism to improve the quality of the fare, so they can start producing top quality chefs who can eventually handle the rigours of working in a busy restaurant.
