We loved the 'Local Ways of Life' of tour. Our guide, Vuthy, took us out into the picturesque Cambodian countryside with its pretty red roads, rural life and friendly 'hellos' along the way. The cycling was not difficult and there were plenty of stops for water and rest. This is one of the best, most authentic tours that we have done - highly recommended.

Dear beloved customer,

Thank you so for leaving us such a fantastic review as well. And thank you for these lovely two pictures, Vuthy must be very happy to hear that you had enjoyed that tour with him. Of course, people in the countryside are so friendly and always happy to foreigners, especially, children are so happy to say hello to you in their village. You are not wrong, biking in the sun sounds so hard but actually, it is not because our beautiful red road is flat and our high-quality bikes are very comfortable, moreover, we will stop along the way for pictures, water and home visit.
Yes, it is very authentic, thanks again for this highly recommend. We would like to wish you and family getting the best of luck and see you in Cambodia again in one day.

With love and respect,
Butterfly Tours

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent bike tour here in Siem Reap with Butterfly tours!
Our guide was very cheerful and enthusiastic, always teaching us about local life throughout the tour. We stopped at the local market, tried our hand at some local crafts and we even had the pleasure of playing with some piglets whilst testing the farmers rice wine... delicious! All in all, a great day out! The bikes were comfy and the route was blew us away, nature and nobody around... nothing like 'pub street' or the busy areas of this city. Take a couple of snacks with you if you can, just in case there is nothing on route the guide can find fit for purpose. We did get to sample some palm oil being cooked, tasted amazing! A real energy boost! Book with butterfly tours if you want to see the backroads of Siem Reap and experience some local culture you couldn't find on your own...

Hi Tom,

It sounds must be fun on the tour included a plenty of your nice selfie picture too, wasn't it? Thank you very much for decided to choose our local bike tour to responsible for your village trip here, especially, leaving us such an enthusiastic review, we appreciated it! Your friendly guide Sam Ath must be happy to see your five stars rating, anyways, he has always done a good job. In addition, we are happy to hear you have tried a lot of snacks and enjoyed with all our stops, piglet is always a fun stop. Obviously, snacks also included on our tour if we could find them on the way because it's randomly with their authentic activities.

All in all, thank you again for your recommendation to everyone, we would like to wish you and family getting the best of luck, enjoy with you next traveling and thanks for many nice pictures of the tour.

With love and respect,
Butterfly Tours

If there was a way to rate Butterfly Tours over a 5, I would. First off, this is a business run by local university students which right off the bat had me intrigued. What’s cooler than supporting locally-owned businesses? Supporting locally-owned STUDENT-RUN businesses. These are some seriously motivated go-getters who have crafted a handful of tours that I believe to be “must-dos” while in Siem Reap.

I opted for the Off The Beaten Track Tour and couldn’t have been happier with my choice. T, my AMAZING student guide took me on what turned out to be my favorite afternoon out of a week traveling in Siem Reap.

To me, getting off the beaten track while traveling is not just something I enjoy but something I find necessary. How can you really get to know the place you are traveling if you only go to the hot-spots or see the big tourist attractions? Don’t get me wrong, Angkor Wat was absolutely spectacular, as were all of the smaller temples, however, I want to see what local people are doing, what they’re eating, what their everyday lives are like, etc. This tour gave me the opportunity to experience that.

The tour starts off from the Butterfly Tours Siem Reap office (they arrange for hotel pickup & drop off, so you don’t have to worry about finding your way there or back) where the team sets you up with a bike and helmet. I have to be honest, the helmet didn’t quite fit despite adjustments and the seat of the bike wasn’t all that comfortable (I would recommend them to get seat pads!!) but it didn’t really take away from the actual experience overall. Tours leave twice a day every day at either 7:40 am or 1:40 pm and return back to the office at 12:00 pm and 5:30 pm, respectively.

The tour is comprised of four different stops over the course of the 20km bike ride: a local market, rice paddy fields, a local basketweavers shop, and a rice wine producers house. However, the guides are very flexible and actually encourage riders to stop and see/experience anything that looks interesting or exciting. T and I ended up stopping multiple times throughout the tour in order to experience some authentic and unexpected events including attending a Cambodian wedding, dancing with local children, watching local fishermen wrestle with fishing nets, and make friends with a local farmer that had me lead her water buffalo through a field…

It was a truly unforgettable experience that I would urge any traveler visiting Siem Reap to put at the top of their Cambodia to-do list. Not only are the guides awesome, the countryside beautiful, the Cambodian people so warm and friendly, but at the end of the day, you’re getting an inside look at everyday life in Cambodia that you simply wouldn’t experience otherwise.

By the way, we are happy to hear that you had experience with a lot of random activities like attending wedding and lad water buffalo and so on, it must be very fun. Anyways, thanks again for your honest feedback, we will deal with helmet and bike seat pad inconventional as soon as we can do.

We had a fantastic experience on the half day morning off the beaten track tour with our guide Van. Van spoke English very well, and the tour was very informative about the way of living for the local people. The bicycles were in pristine condition and we easily the covered the 21km over rocky back roads, suitable even for beginner cyclists. Overall we had a great day and would recommend to anyone visiting Siem reap :D

A half day off the beaten track tour and with Butterfly bike tours was very insightful and exciting experience. Together Vuthy or "T", an outstanding tour guide, we biked around the countryside to see what ordinary Cambodian people's life looks like, from the local market to the traditional houses in villages nearby, to some of the local crafts, like rice wine, basket-weaving and pottery. Along the way, Vuthy explained elements of Cambodian history, politics, economy, lifestyle and tried to answer my curious questions. I would recommend this bike tour, and Vuthy as a guide because it will take you away from tourists and it will feel as if you are with a Cambodian friend showing your around.
