As long as you walk into the hotel, you are facing a beautiful lobby. The IHG member recognition is excellent. We are upgraded to a better room. The room is clean and cozy, but the dining experience doesn't meet our expectation. We had a buffet one night, and the meat and fish are not fresh considering Hainan is an island. I can see the restaurant staff are lack of motivation. The management should put more work into training the staff and provide fresher raw materials for the restaurants.

The Crowne Plaza Sanya city centre is an odd one. Firstly I must say that all of the staff I have encountered have been incredibly friendly and courteous which is always a massive bonus. The rooms are huge with separate rooms for the bath/shower, toilet and sink area which is always nice. My issue is mainly down to the overall cleanliness of the hotel. I have noted that the room is in need of a deep clean as there are some marks in front of the sink and quite a bit of mould growing in the sealant by the bath. Not to mention the lobby bathrooms which had rags on the floor.

Secondly, not due to the staff but the quality of food and beverage compared to the price you're expected to pay is terrible. I woudnt reccommend trying the outlets as there are far nicer places in Sanya.

Lastly the wifi is absolutely shocking and if you need to do work whilst in sanya probably stay somewhere else.

All in all its a pleasant enough hotel and good as a budget hotel but if Crowne Plaza really wants to be mid-scale I would reccommend a brand audit be done soon.

The hotel is situated just a short distance from Dundonghai Beach and the city centre.

We stayed here in 3 separate rooms on floors 8, 11 & 15. First of all...the good points:

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. The rooms are of a high standard and are well equipped. The restaurant serves an excellent selection of food and standard of meals. The pool and bar areas are spotless and well looked after.
Now the bad points: Unless you speak Chinese then you will encounter a language barrier, from checking in/out and general questions it was pretty difficult. We ended up doing everything by mobile phone translations and it saved a lot of time. The BIG drawback is that there was some major building work going on at the back of the hotel which started early in the mornings and occasionally through most of the night. If you want to stay here then my advice is to check to see if the work has finished. Looking at the size of the operation though I think it may be some time.
All in all it's a lovely hotel with friendly staff who try to help you in any way.

Stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and last time had the opportunity to share some opinion with the GM. Learned that she doesn't work here anymore but quite a few areas showed positive changes, i.e. more English translation for services and food offered as well as staff's spoken English.

Before arrival, I wrote to check availability of plastic chair to be used in shower as well as wheelchair for my mom who has reduced mobility. The answer was negative but to my surprise, upon arrival, a plastic chair was put inside the shower and there was a wheelchair we could use inside the hotel during our stay. Choosing this hotel was because of its value for money and close location to the First Market. Taxi fare from airport was about RMB 55. For guests who registered as IHG Reward Club members, there was a welcome drink.

At the First market you can pick your own seafood and lots of fruits around. Any seafood restaurants next to this market can prepare the food for you at an additional fee. For smaller number of people, we choose set menu where we can sample different kinds of seafood as well as avoiding being ripped off.

Room was spacious and clean with typical see-through bathroom where curtain control was outside the shower. Unless you are a couple or close family, otherwise, it's not too convenient to use this type of bathroom. Rooms facing the marina were very noisy as there was heavy traffic right in front of the hotel. There were 2 bottles of complimentary water and a few international channels including BBC news. Wifi in room was bad and kept being cut off.

Breakfast selection was plentiful and good as hot dishes were changed everyday. There were many variety of bread, a big noodle corner, several types of congee and an egg station. Salad was ok with 4 types of fresh fruits but juices were no good. Major problem with the coffee shop during breakfast hours was slow refill and cleaning of tables. There were several Nepalese waiters who could speak English but they didn't seemed to be fully trained.

From the TV promotion we saw fondue at RMB 99 with double package required. It so happened we saw the F&B Sales Manager on duty and we checked out the details. We were told that was old price but she could still offer us a dinner buffet (with fondue) at the coffee shop at RMB 99 per person. We later learned that this offer seemed to have a quota of just 10 each evening for hotel guests. Although the sizes of the prawns, oysters and shells etc were very tiny, there was also sashimi and other hot food which still represented good value at that price.

We also tried out their Chinese Yue Chao Restaurant which had a daily special dish at RMB 18. On Sunday it happened to be RMB 18 for half a crispy chicken. As that crispy chicken was not available, we had half a steamed chicken which was also good. With an extra dish of vegetables and coconut rice, the bill was under CMB 100 as guests also enjoyed 10% off.

Front desk Grace and porter Smabar were very helpful during our stay. Hope the hotel service can continue to improve.

Water leaks on the ceiling with mold, toilets that would not flush, internet problems and English problems. What more need I say.

Time for Crowne Plaza to spend some money on up keep of this hotel or take away the word Crown!!!

I would also comment that the workers from Nepal were very good and help in every way, we could communicate in English with them, The rest of the staff tried, but took a great deal of effort and the message did not always get through, Again, if this is suppose to be an International hotel, more people must be able to speak English.

Room Tip: Bay facing rooms, not river facing.
