Economy hotel. Hotel prices go crazy in Harbin just before Chinese New Year and we had extended our vacation by 2 days and decided to try Ibis for a couple nights. Price was an absolute bargain so I was a little worried about it.
I'd give them 4 stars for an economy hotel if it wasn't for one thing (If yo want, skip to end to get to my complaint)
The location is great. Close to St Sophia Church and the entrance is only 2 blocks from Zongyang Street, which means shopping, restaurants and fun is very close by.
The girl at the counter spoke very good English. I didn't need my wife (she's Chinese) to check in or out.
The room (Queen and its the largest bed they have) was very clean - It seemed to be brand new. The room was small but well designed. A full length counter on the window wall served as a desk and it was big enough for my laptop. No other chairs, but there was a padded bench.
We had 4 large bags (-20F this time of year, one bag each just for winter gear). 2 roller bags fit easily under the bed and the faux hardwood floor made it easy to slide them in and out. There was room for 2 more along the wall without being in the way too much. Coats and hand bags on the bench... Make no mistake, these are small rooms but if you're organized they are ok.
The bathroom was small but just fine to comfortably do what needs to be done. No tub but the shower was relatively large. It was clean. The whole room was clean. Like my grandma cleaned it. Twice!
The room was hot but I was able to control that by cracking the window.
Ethernet internet worked well. Not many English speaking TV channels but there were a few. I did not eat the breakfast offered, at the time, the reviews about it were universally terrible so we by passed it.
My wife really liked the room. She likes a bargain, doesn't spend much time in the room anyway she liked the way it looked and was laid out But....
I had one major problem with it: The bed was hard as a rock. I'm used to getting hard beds in China, but wow! I spend over 100 nights a year on the road, and have for over 20 years: Hardest bed ever. I'm not prone to complaining about the small things, but I felt like they forgot to put a mattress on the box spring that I was sleeping on. IF we stay here again I'm bringing my foam camping pad to sleep on.
