Had the 1.5KG Tomahawk at the Grange restuarant and it was one of the best steaks I ever had!! Even the chef came to our table to explain the dish and asked how we would like it served.

If visiting Wuhan, this is definately a restaurant to pass by.

I was here on a very quiet evening: after the first twenty minutes, I was the only person in the room. I guess my choice of seating wasn't too smart: it's an open kitchen with some noise from that angle, and I was also seated next to the door to the scullery. Normally that would not have been so bad, but apparently they decided to replace all of their dishes and to methodically break the old ones, one by one, all evening.

That said, the food was well prepared and nicely presented, and the service was very attentive. I found the menu rather limited (mostly beef, which is almost always disappointing in China) but the carpaccio was excellent and the salmon OK.

The bar connection appears to be tenuous. There was no drink menu and a limited wine menu. The waiter had to go inquire about both the beer selection (3 choices) and the scotch selection (2 choices).

Was told that bearnaise sauce was unavailable. Hmmm, this is a steak house right? "The kitchen doesn't have the ingredients". Let me see, we're talking about eggs, butter, vinegar, tarragon? Strange! Bread rolls arrive warm. Clearly these have been in the microwave. This is not clever as the bread becomes rock hard when it cools down. Mashed potato had lumps of starch in it, a clear indication that the potato had been pre-cooked and re-heated. On the plus side, the steak was very nice and service was reasonably efficient .

I have been to Grange each time I have visited Wuhan, as it is the best caesar salad, steak and wine in Wuhan (one of my favourite places in China for steak).

The menu has both appetizers and salads listed The mushroom "appetizer' is a salad. Guess they ran out of ideas once they passed Tuna tartare and beef Carpaccio. My medium rare steak hadn`t been given time to rest (surely steak chefs should know this?) and therefore it was still very rare. Having made the mistake of sending back steaks in previous dining experiences elsewhere, I opted not to mention it, given that I would prefer too rare to overdone. The steak itself was under seasoned and required the addition of salt. To the contrary, the side dishes were over seasoned, the mushrooms to the point of inedible.

There aren`t many "western food" options in Wuhan. Grange is a nice enough restaurant, but it`s an expensive gamble for the justifiably large price tag for the premium meat on offer. Feeling lucky diners?
