This was the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is a charming hotel, built in traditional Chinese style around a lovely courtyard in a delightful reconstructed area next to a genuine old monastery. The rooms are beautiful. The only caveat is that it is situated in a pedestrian area therefore luggage has to be brought from the main road. Also the restaurant is small with a very Chinese menu not adapted to Western taste and the waiters do not speak English. Otherwise it is a wonderful place to stay

Beautiful hotel built and decorated in a traditional Chinese style and is a fabulous attraction. You could hope for a more interesting hotel.

The room was huge and the beds were comfortable and we slept well the room had traditional styling and had good air conditioning, necessary on a cold night.

There was a bit of noise from adjoining rooms early but it didn’t last. If the outside street was noisy it could have been a problem as the windows weren’t sealed.

Wifi was fairly fast and free.

Would love to stay here again.

We stayed here twice and found this a great little hotel. You need to walk from the main street a couple hundred meters as there is no vehicle access, but the area is paved so no big deal. The Hotel staff are friendly and some staff do speak english. Whilst the rooms are not huge they are clean, the bead is comforatable and very quiet. No fridge but that seems usual in China, although they do provide ice on request. Breakfast was pretty standard but nice and hot - the dinning area is only small but we had no problems finding a table. Don't know how you would go in high season. We really like the area that the hotel is in - close to restaurants and the complex that it is situated in looks to be fairly new - so in a year this place will be quite busy with new shops.

If you like small boutique hotels this is the place for you in Chengdu. The hotel has a traditional Chinese feel to it with a central open courtyard and a small rooftop terrace with seating to enjoy the neighborhood rooftops. The hotel is in a traditional neighborhood and requires a walk of about 100 meters to the entrance. We stayed here for three nights in a Superior Double on the third floor with a small balcony. There is no elevator but the porters will gladly help you with your bags for a small tip.

The room is small but has the normal amenities such as a safe, coffee/tea pot, a spot for a fridge but no fridge in our room but ice was available. The usual bathroom amenities, wifi (typical Chinese quality) and a hair dryer were also supplied. The biggest drawback was the tiny bathroom...although the shower itself was quite big and there was ample counter space. But one person in the room at a time.

The breakfast was marginal and the seating was inadequate. We did have one dinner and it was quite good. Ignore the portion sizes in the menu photos because they are at least twice that size. Ordering if you have no Chinese skills however is an adventure.

Our last night/morning there was negatively impacted by a large tour group that swamped the breakfast room. I like boutique hotels because they typically do not attract groups, which apparently does not apply here.

Even though there are some drawbacks I definitely recommend this hotel.

We arrived in Chengdu having taken the Bullet train from Xi’an- just over 4 hrs - and highly recommended. BuddhaZen has an authentic and traditional Chinese feel. The official room pictures do not do the hotel justice. Our room had a large king bed and a separate sitting area and a very non corporate chain feeling - boutique Chinese. Bathroom very small with big bottle supermarket style branded toiletries - a little surprising but not that important really. Location a bit off the beaten track, 15 mins drive away from the incredibly modern shopping area, IFS, with a huge panda scaling the outside of the building - worth a visit for this alone. Western breakfast choice very limited however - which was disappointing. But would still recommend this hotel as a good Chengdu base.
