A very decent hotel right where a tourist wants to be. Walking distance to many attractions. Decent breakfast and an excellent ( small ) kitchen. There’s a small pool and hot tub on the roof. The rooms all have AC that works really well. A resident Toucan wanders around the courtyards.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Bantu New Years weekend. We had an incredible experience. We were a little nervous before arriving because we weren't to sure what to expect with a small boutique hotel but everything far exceeding our expectations. The staff was extremely accommodating, kind and helpful! We stayed in a one bedroom on the first floor just passed the swing. Our room was very spacious and clean. The room had great AC, the shower had amazing pressure and the bed was extremely comfortable. I would definitely stay there again and ask for the same room. Also the tucan is real! Don't be scared he's small and minds his own business, hanging out by the bench during the day, so cute! The location could not be better, 2 min walk from the best restaurants and nightlife. On the night of the 31st the staff presented us with a small complimentary bottle of champagne, details like this didn't go unnoticed and made the experience all that more memorable. We are very grateful to the entire staff at bantu hotel for making our trip so wondrful!

Situated within the Walled City, this is ideal for exploring. Set in an old colonial house it is quirky in design with uncovered courtyards inside. Our room was on one such courtyard, so when it rained the steps up to the room became slippery so be careful.

The room was a good size, but very dark and not much lighting inside.Decor was in keeping with the history of the hotel.Plenty of hot water and serviced promptly each day.

No complimentary tea and coffee making facilitis in the room or water.

Wifi did work Ok in the room.

Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice, served in the small restaurant.

The pool terrace at the top is pleasant but gets full around the very small pool. We found it better to sit by the jacuzzi at the other end and there was also a little secluded courtyard off this which was very nice. They do not put many towels out which are quickly taken so you have to keep going downstairs to ask for more.

We tried to order drinks from the pool on two occasions and it took over 30 mins for it to come, depsite them not being busy downstairs, in fact we had to chase it up twice but still it did not come any quicker! We didn't see many people ordering drinks at the pool maybe that it shy!

The bar area downstairs was rather tired and we never saw anyone use it. We ordered a bottle of wine on our first evening, the wine list was reasonable BUT they only had one of the the reds on it - so no choice at all. We didn;t bother again due to this.

Reception is manned by pleasant ladies who were extremely helpful chasing up our bags which the airline managed to loose for us! .

Website says sea views, can't see where they are as couldn't see them from the pool terrace.

Dear guest,

We thank you for your valuable comments. Bantú Hotel has a colonial atmosphere, basing its decoration on the Palenque culture and with small modern touches, which will allow you to live the experience of residing a house of the XII Century.

This will always be your home in Cartagena de Indias and we hope to welcome you in a next stay to offer you the best of our service.

I wanted to love this hotel - when I booked it I was very excited the location is wonderful an the charm of the common spaces is undeniable. However, massive problems arose when we were checked into our room for the night. My only assumption can be that the hotel was oversold for the night because when we checked in we were escorted to what can only be described as a storage closet with a bed, interior facing window that faced a loud bar area, bugs, and a shower that did not drain. Had we been staying in a hostel this all would have been fine however this treatment did not at all merit the 4 star hotel price tag that was placed on this room where i could cross from the bed to the door in two steps. In the defense of the actual hotel staff they were truly apologetic about the situation and did their best to resolve it by upgrading us to a suite the next day. Our suite was much nicer and the room could fit about 4 of our room the previous night however I cannot say I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Would only recommend if booking a suite. The "superior room" is luck of the draw

The hotel is perfectly located for touring the old city. The staff is very pleasant and the breakfast is very good. The rooftop garden is a great place to relax after a busy day but the pool is very small and can get crowded. The rooms can be noisy given the design and are somewhat worn but certainly adequate in terms of comfort. Bring earplugs. We forgot some clothing in a closet and without calling they still had it waiting for us when we returned to Cartagena 3 days later. The front desk is not knowledgeable regarding restaurant quality, tours, etc. Overall a good experience but don't expect too much.

Room Tip: Stay away from the street and the courtyard to limit noise
