“A quaint little lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2011

We were on a Friendly Planet tour (www.friendlyplanet.com) tour to the Galapagos and this is where they placed us for the first leg of our journey. See our review for the Red Mangrove Adventure Lodge. This is a quaint little lodge a few blocks from the wharf, and the Charles Darwin Research Center. It has a breakfast nook, but you will have to walk a few blocks to the Adventure Lodge for the main restaurant. Very friendly and efficient service, and nice rooms.

We stayed at the Santa Cruz Divers Lodge a total of two nights on our Friendly Planet/Red Mangrove Island Express tour. We loved it! The place was so small and intimate it felt more like a B&B. Such a gem hidden away from the hustle of town and marina!

Rooms were spacious and well equiped. Well if I had a wish it would be for a face cloth and some kleenex but this seems to be the norm for South America. LOL Rooms were exceptionally clean.

the staff was very helpful and full of smiles. The breakfast was great with fresh eggs of your choice. Fruit, pancakes, french toast, juice etc. Great way to start the day.

Red Mangrove does a great job of pampering you. We had lunch at dinner at the main lodge just down the hill. the food and service there was great. We have NO complaints.

The Diver's Lodge is the "poorer cousin" to THE marquee Red Mangrove Lodge. It is a few blocks away from the Lodge and although not on the main road it is just a few blocks from Santa Cruz' main street. The exterior is cheerfully and colorful decorated with tiles and quite lovely. The "pool" is actually more like a small hot tub, but it is pretty. The breakfast is fine and the staff is lovely and accomodating. The staff leaves at 10pm so if you are out after that make sure you bring your key for the outside gate. I paid over $250 for a four person bedroom. The interior of the room is quite bland, my room had bald lightbulbs and inadequate light for reading. Our bathroom had a small sink and a window overlooking a roof where construction workers were working and could see straight in -- and no curtain. The air conditioning worked fine. Wireless internet was horribly slow but that is a function of the Galapagos Islands and not the hotel. Overall, I thought it was adequate for one night but overpriced -- but everything in Santa Cruz is overpriced. I was quite happy to get on our catamaran and tour the other islands.
