“If I could make the choice again it would definately be Red Sea Relax & dive centre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2010

As a 53 year old male from UK who has had diabetes for 20 years, I was medically signed off fit for PADI diving April 2010 and wanted to do Open Water referral in the Red Sea. Sharm appeared to be too commercial whilst Dahab appeared to be more laid back. Having done my research I booked RRR with their dive centre as it takes less than 5 minutes from bedroom to being in the sea. The hotel was excellent, the food great, and I had no stomach/gut problems during my 14 nights there. I didn't eat anywhere else! Being insulin dependent diabetes I was paranoid about going hypoglycaemic whilst underwater. All the instructors were brilliant and asked in a kindly manner whether I had tested my blood glucose prior to a dive, and what to do if I had a problem whilst underwater. RRR gave me 10% discount as I paid in advance, and the dive centre gave a further 10% discount as I was staying at RRR hotel. Everything went so well I shall return to RRR October 2011 provided I am medically signed off fit. Thanks to Paul and all the PADI instructors.

Must say I enjoyed the stay at this hotel very much. I dread huge, ant-house style hotels which are the standard of any holiday resort today, so staying in one which has approximately 20 rooms or so was a pleasant change. The rooms have all you might need including a TV set (if you really need to watch Arabian tv on your holiday :) ) a kettle with tea and coffee and clean beds. The hotel is in the Lighthouse area which means you can stroll around the city, visiting local shops and restaurants at your leisure without worrying about transfers and taxies. Pool is small and the number of sun beds is limited. The beach with more sun beds and an easy sandy entry is close by. You have a number of diving centers close by, I personally recommend Planet Divers.

We had one of the newly built apartments to the rear of the hotel.

Apartment - spacious with double and twin rooms, bathroom/wet room, large open plan kitchen, diner, lounge. Planned to spend a few evenings around the apartment to save money, but found it so cheap to eat out we only stayed in twice in 15 nights. Only negative is being away from the buzz of the hotel, but it's literally 2 minutes walk to the hotel, so no really problem at all. It’s also next to the mosque and a goat farm, which is a great alarm clock to have.

Breakfast - excellent, all you can eat 8am - 11am, with no limit to visits. Stayed 2 weeks so repetitive, but no more so than being at home, they do fresh pancakes and omelettes (which are lush).

Pool - didn't use as we always got a lounger in the beach bar area, which is 2 meters from the sea (and 0 meters other days depending on the tide!!)

Sea - lovely, tiny beach area, cleaned and like a mill pond most days, I’m not a diver but I do snorkel, I bought a set of snorkel stuff from a shop on the boulevard for 100LE or it's 10LE a day to rent from the dive centre. Swim out 100m to left for lighthouse reef and round the bay to the right towards the police station for more excellent coral.

Churchill’s bar - great and cheap, 2 weeks drinking beer in the day and vodka at night came to about £50-£60 quid each and we didn't hold back! The great think is you can just add it to your room bill.

Staff - by far and away the best thing about this place, just felt like family and we were genuinely sad to leave. Reception guys so helpful, providing us with towels, take away breakfasts, trips, doctors when my friend got ill, they are awesome. Also Lorraine in the dive centre runs excellent, cheap snorkel trips to Blue Hole daily and recommends other locations as well. Sent us on a trip to alla galum (think that’s how it’s spelt) 1.5 hours camel ride around the stunning coast and then a couple of hours snorkelling at the Bedouin village before camels back, great day out.

Absolutely recommend this place, it’s not a 5 star chain hotel, but Dahab isn’t that sort of place, it’s a cool, friendly, chilled hotel, for normal down to earth people. You feel like you can walk off the beach, sling on a t shirt, no make up and head straight to the bar, to have a gossip and meet new people that actually talk to you.

We spent an unforgettable week at the Red Sea Relax and didn’t want to leave! The location is perfect - right on the beach and close to a large variety of restaurants, bars and shops. The hotel staff are very friendly and our spacious apartment was excellent value for money. The hotel also has a small pool (which we had to ourselves most of the time), plus a rooftop bar with views across the bay – great for early evening beers.

The highlight of our stay was definitely the diving. The Dive Centre caters for all levels and is just a few steps from the beach. It’s very professionally run and the staff are both highly experienced and great fun! We met a number of people who were enjoying their second or third visit and it’s easy to understand why. If you’re looking for a relaxing break and great diving and you’re not precious about 5-star luxuries, the Red Sea Relax is the perfect choice. We’ll definitely be going back!

The best part of Red Sea Relax was the service. Especially Said, one of the receptionists, was amazing - he gave us great advice on countless things and believe me, as individual travellers in Egypt, you need local knowledge. He was cordial, smart, friendly, spoke great English and had a superb service attitude.
When we arrived after a red-eye flight at 8am in the morning, our room was not ready yet. One of the receptionists let us stay in a vacant room and sleep until check-in time. free of charge.
Wireless internet worked, the rooms were clean and pleasant, aircon worked well, beautiful balcony.
On the slightly negative side, breakfast could have been more varied (but the guys go out of their way to make it a pleasant experience nonetheless - I particularly recommend the pancakes with sugar they do on demand) and the watercooler could have been refilled more often.
As far as I can tell, Red Sea Relax is the best hotel in town if you want to stay in the village of Dahab. Of course, there's always Le Meridien and Hilton, but they are far away. Amazing value for money. BIG THUMBS UP!

Stayed here for a week in a private room with ensuite.
The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The air con was brilliant and we had a fridge in our room which was great. Every day we had a bottle of water delivered to our room. Our room was cleaned daily to a high standard. There was tea, coffee and water availiable 24 hours in the reception area at no cost. The breakfast was of good standard, plenty of choice. The pool was constantly maintained. We have no complaints about the red sea relax, you pay for what you get and we were very happy - it was good value for money. Would definatley go back, Dahab is a great place to relax and the red sea is a great base to see it from.
