“Excellent facilities, the rest not so good”
Reviewed 26 January 2012

Me and my girlfriend stayed here a week in fabruary 2011, and booked a standard room with all inclusive. However, our experience of what the all inclusive really ment was aweful. What you really want with all inclusive is to never think of what you eat and drink and how much it costs, but here it was only some specific items in each menu that was included, so you really had to be careful so that you didnt order something not included.

Also many other things bothered us about the stay; such as not having free wifi internet, only 5 items of laudry is included in the all inclusive, they promise you free golf, but you have to rent shoes and clubs yourself. All of these small things add up to quite an annoyance, and is not really what you expect when booking a 5 star, luxury hotel with all inclusive.

I must say though, that this hotel has the best facilities I have ever witnessed in my life. Even though the town of hurgada has nothing to offer, it doesnt really matter because you never have to leave the hotel area. It has everything! Several pools, bars, restaurants, tennis court, golf course, private beach, boat rental and more.

We stayed here for 2 wks over xmas 2011.The hotel rooms were cleaned every day and sheets/towels changed. The hotel pool and bar areas also clean and tidy.Hotel staff always cheerful and friendly.Food plenty of choice you could always find something to eat.Lunch-time food at beach bar fine but obviously not as much choice as hotel restaurant.Weather sunny every day about 22c but can be abit chilly in evenings.Entertainment each evening was from10pm to 11pm usually a local act and from 11pm to 2am there was a disco.Sea temperature lovely once in but need to dry yourself off quickly when you get out! Golf course 9 hole par 3, 15 euro pp + another 7-10 euro for club hire and balls. Both beach and golf a few minutes walk straight across the road.Shopping be prepared to be stopped at every shop !! If you go left outside of hotel 400 metres along the road there is a shop which has fixed prices and staff don't hassle you.

The wife and I stayed 2 weeks from 31.12.11 with her parents.

Hotel: The hotel is very well cared for and the management are first class. They work tirelessly to resolve any issues quickly and fully. You will not be disappointed with regard to how much they care about your holiday. The rooms are large, comfortable, well appointed and attractive and the staff looking after them, especially Ahmed Farag Alla did a great job in maintaining the highest standards. If you can complain about them you really will never be satisfied.

Food: The food is very high quality and has a good variety. I do not eat cake or bread and was never left feeling short changed in any way.

Service: In addition to the Management as mentioned the service from Waleed, Tamer and Atef Abedelkader in the main bar was absolutely first class and the two additional restaurants, Alexander's and Tanga, maintained also the highest standards of food and service. A special word for the lady making the bread who always had a smile on her face and a kind word yet I am sure gets very little attention.

Externals: The grounds are huge and well cared for however the main pool was 14'c and as such unusable which was a disappointment. The beach was beautifully presented and you always felt very comfortable on the loungers or the hammocks.

Activities: This was a bit of a let down as there seemed to be an activities team but I have little idea what they did apart from run a few classes. The bikes available were in truth fit only for the bin and the guy looking after them was one of the few people who didn't seem bothered with them or the clients. There is also some guy with snazzy glasses who works as part of the activities team who really is rubbish. When the bike guy had vanished on our return I asked the guy in glasses where he was and he simply shrugged his shoulders. i asked what to do with the bikes as they needed to be signed back and he said he would get someone and walked away. 15 minutes waiting and the sun going down suggested he had done nothing and could not have cared less. He was one of the few who was letting the rest down badly.

Entertainment. The evening entertainment ranged from great (Russian dancers, belly dancer) to dire (male singer who was worse than a drunken pub singer).

The only significant negative aspect of the hotel is the fact that smoking is permitted internally and as it is an international hotel frequented by Russians the place was heavy with smoke in the first week when it is a big time for Russians to holiday. Keep that in mind as I could not be in the lobby bars or entertainment area with that going on as it was disgusting.

Would we go back is the big question and the answer is definitely yes. We had a great time and were treated very well overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view with a room off of the main atrium as you get a lot of noise carry in that cavern...

This was our second stay in this hotel and again we had a great time. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is spacious and so are the rooms. There is a lot of space around the pools and on the beach with lots of sunbeds. We loved the lazy river. Breakfast is plentiful with cooks that prepare omelets etc. The terrace is great for breakfast. We didn’t have problems with the birds. The hotel became fuller during our stay. Maybe there were a lot of Germans and Russians, but they didn’t bother us at all.
We booked B&B and for dinner we went out of the hotel. There are some nice restaurants within walking distance and a couple of times we took a taxi to the old part of Hurghada and the Marina.
The hotel itself has a 2.500 meter running track, but running on the ‘boulevard’ is nice and can be done without being disturbed.
The beautiful garden is well kept.

Traveled between 3rd and 10th Jan. Stayed on B&B basis as we dont like the buffet food concept which ties you to the hotel for evening meals.

Hotel: Good quality, good facilities, good service (apart from room service - more of that later), good size resort, good location for access to Hurghada (15mins) / New Marina (20mins) / Airport (5mins).

Room: Stayed in deluxe sea view (5th Floor), very spacious, 24inch Samsung TV, nice view, large king size bed, good clean bathroom.

Food: Within the hotel there is:
Tamarind restaurant is the main area for eating and provides a buffet service style. If you like this style of dining then l am sure you would be satisfied with the standard of food, however, for us we found it a bit chaotic and prefer waiter service, ate only once here for evening meal.
Tanga restaurant is on the beach, we tried to get seated at lunch time completely disorganised, no wait to be seated policy applied here more like free for all seating. Moved to the Bwala Pool for lunch much more civilised and great service.
Alexanders fining dining - great food loved it, only managed to get one booking for the week.

Food Locations to eat at outside the Hotel:
HardRock Cafe - 15 min walk from hotel - great food and atmosphere
Katzn - Seafood restaurant in Hurghada
Little Budda - Chinese Restaurant in Hurghada
New Marina - Loads of bars and restaurants to chose from - Great views of the sunset as well.

Tips:
Pack a box of wine in your luggage and store it in your fridge in the room - Imported wine is very expensive in Hurghada and the local ones are less than ideal.
Don't exchange sterling to Egyptian pounds before you travel the exchange rate is shocking, wait until you arrive and then exchange at local bank or hotel reception. If you need to pay the taxi driver from the airport pay them in sterling.
Don't use the mini bar unless its free (Elite Rooms Minibar is free), it is very expensive. Just walk out of the hotel across to Cleopatra Bazaar and visit the little supermarket to stock up on your snacks.
Visit the New Marina.

Why it isn't 5* Europe
Room service is poor you wait at least 45 mins for anything you have ordered, so ensure you provide them with enough notice.
No Wait to be seated policy, other than at Alexanders.
Noise from Sultan Hotel (Neighbouring Hotel) can be loud and annoying unless you like euro technopop.

Overall - Had a relaxing week away, weather was great, it was just what we needed after the hectic festive period. Only problem is that if you compare this hotel to the likes of Oberoi in Sahl Hasheesh it falls short of being a true 5*, but you cannot fault the Steigenbergers location.

Room Tip: Top Floor with sea view a must
