If you want to stay overnight in the heart of the town before heading for Havelock or Neil Island, this is the best place for transit. Rooms are large. Bathrooms needs renovation/maintenance. wifi only in the reception is a big drawback

Located in busy bazaar area,Checkin was smooth, staff were very courteous and friendly, room was clean, bed was very comfortable and food was delicious. Although not much view from room, it didn't mind since you would be on sight seeing always.

My visit to portblair this September was a memorable one. My stay at hotel j for 4 days was a comfortable experience. The hotel centrally located amidst the main sightseeing areas, it's cosy grand rooms n a wonderful staff makes a delightful memory. The restaurant staff was extremely helpful, the chef Mr Sadiq a wonderful cook. The food is the best part of this hotel. The reception staff assisted me in every need especially during the bandh in andaman. Yes, there's a problem of unavailability of hot water in the rooms n the wifi network is poor across the entire andamans. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel n I highly recommend this hotel for an easy access to different parts of the city.

Good points: This resort is very centrally located a 2 minutes walk to Aberdeen Bazaar and many different restaurant options. There aren’t many good hotels to choose from in this central area and J Hotel isnt a bad choice. The room was nice, bed was comfortable and very quiet considering the proximity to the hustle and bustle.
Bad points: We struggled with the limited wifi (which isn’t great anywhere in the Andamans however especially in this hotel) and the cold shower which maintenance couldn’t fix. We rang the restaurant for a bucket of ice which was delivered along with a bill of $7aud. As this wasn’t mentioned on the phone when I ordered it I said I wasn’t aware that there was a charge and sent the ice back to the restaurant. The restaurant manager then called our room and spoke very rudely to me saying we would still be charged and I was the one who ordered the ice. Very poor customer service and not how you speak to guests! We checked out and changed hotels to Hotel Shompen which was half the price with good wifi, hot showers, friendly staff and a great bar and restaurant.

Advantages:
1. Location - Heart of Aberdeen market
2. Standard hotel facilities - The rooms are comparable to a 3 star in a large city
3. Most (not all) of the staff are very polite, humble and willing to help - esp the guard who so enthusiastically helps with luggage.
Challenges:
1. Rats squeaking and running round ruins your sleep quality
2. cockroaches running around
3. smelly corridor/hallway carpet
4. Fish - a huge Surmai (sourced for kitchen) was lying at the entrance on the road with dogs sniffing it. maybe served for lunch/dinner
5. cluttered neighborhood view from the window
6. Restaurant view not very soothing and food not very appetizing
7. The kettles are in bad condition. Please check before use.

Room Tip: Avoid room 104 and 306
