Description: Dera, the elegant Indian restaurant, presents an inviting ambience with its split level design, warm lighting, show kitchen and interactive counter. The menu showcases an array of traditional delicacies from the Punjab with specialities from Amritsar, Lahore and Peshawar yet with a contemporary touch as they are cooked in virgin olive oil. Mobile trolleys serving fresh phulkas (Indian breads), as well as delicious dal-tadka (tempered pulses), add to the enjoyable dining experience. Open only for dinner.

A recent visit to Taj Chandigarh led me to this absolutely beautiful restaurant called Dera. This a place serving authentic Punjabi cuisine. This is not actually just Punjabi, it serves food from the ages-old undivided Punjab. The Punjab that once covered the entire Pakistan as we know it today. So, there are a lot of authentic flavors here that are bound to transport one in the old Punjab full of vibrancy and vigor.

Let's talk about what all I had.
I started with the crispy platter which is basically a platter of fried Poppadoms with a yummy dip. It was a great appetizer and complimenting it was Chunkey Wali Chaas. This was a drink like none other. It was a rich and thick Chaas that was salty and had superb flavors. This is highly recommended.
Next up was masala dahi quenelles with mushroom kurkure. I delight for mushroom lovers like me. This was one hell of a snack.

Next were the show stoppers- Mushoom Malai Galouti. These were so soft and tender and had a very earthy flavor of mushroom that hit all the correct notes in the mouth. This has become my favorite dish without a doubt.

Another great starter was the Masala Malai Chaamp. Another mouth watering delicacy.
One more thing I would like to recommend would be the Santrey aur Adrakh ka Raita. Now this was an innovation by the very talented chef like all the other dishes and this was a superhit. The flavors of ginger and orange blended superbly and made me love this combination.

In the main course was Handi dal, Churan wali Bhindi and Choley. Everything was delightful and well prepared.

My dessert plate had masala jalebi with rabri and shan-e-dera. Masala jalebi is very different from normal jalebi because it had some uniue masalas topping it. Shan-e-dera was a rasmalai of sorts but it was extremely soft and tender. Very enjoyable indeed.

The restaurant is beautifully done up and the glass exterior allows one to gaze upon the plants and natural foliage on the outside. The service is par excellence and much appreciated. Overall a lovely experience and a must visit place.

It is one of the most interesting North Indian serving restaurant.
The ambience and the hospitality will definitely amaze you.

I tried couple of dishes here.
In starters would recommend the mushroom malai galouti- it’s a real innovation and the galouti was super soft as it should be. I couldn’t even feel the mushroom as they were blended so well. It just tasted superb.

Hari Mirch ka paneer tikka was interesting too. It was a proper tikka but the best part is it had separate chillies along which were well sautéed.

I also loved he mutton galouti-spot on flavour and perfect texture. Heaven for non vegetarians.

In main course I relished the interesting combination of santrey and adrak ka raita.
The Churan wali Bhindi was superb and I relished the flavours of it.

The Nalli ghost was juicy and had good enough pieces for us to relish. The mutton was well cooked and had perfect flavour.

In desserts I loved the masala jalebi which had couple of condiments like cardamom, pepper, sauf etc all these were sprinkled on the crispy jalebis- a must try.

They also served churans along just to get comfortable with the heavy meal.
I absolutely enjoyed my visit.

The ambience and decor of Dera has not changed for the longest time. The menu has. The dal and kebabs were as good as ever especially the chicken malai kebab. The galauti was great and the broccoli was good. The laccha parantha and lahori naan were very good. The disappointment was their signature chicken wrapped in flour which was very strong on mustard and cold although it was supposed to have come out of the tandoor. Credit goes to Chef Yogesh that he apologized and made amends by substituting the dish for another one. The signature dessert of their version of rasmalai was superb. Service was very good.

Everything was amazing.... Staff at restaurant are well groomed.... Specially thanks to Mr. Soumya for suggesting nice food for us.... And again a big clap for Mr Rajesh who make everything nicely..... Food was mouthwatering all the credit goes to head chef Yogesh..... At the thanks for surprise cake...

this is one place where the menu is not all you get. the chef helps in choosing your meal and appreciating your likes and dislikes and serving a meal which will make you happy.
