Our train from Mumbai was delayed. But the car and the driver from House of MG was waiting for us. The driver loaded the luggage in the car and drove us to The House of MG. On arrival we were checked in promptly. The staff unloaded and brought the luggage to our room. Minutes after, we were provided with a welcoming drink.
We had booked for two days in deluxe room and two days for standard room. The management put us up in deluxe room for all the four days. Thank you. We stayed in room MG 205. The room is indeed deluxe. It was spacious, very very clean and came with everything one would expect in a good quality star hotel. The bath rooms were big and the bed very comfortable. With two air conditioners, the room was cool and comfortable.
I was not happy with the pillows provided. They were too thick for my liking. The laundry was a same day service and was prompt. The staff were polite and helpful.
We ate dinner in Agasiye restaurant. The food and ambience was great. Agasiye is a bit pricey. But one gets what you pay for. Also it is a choice. The breakfast served in the Green House restaurant was good. You get continental or a combination with one Indian dish. You have a choice to have the breakfast inside or outside in a covered space. The restaurant had a bit of a damp smell, may be due to the heavy rains in Ahmedabad.
We had a split booking and stayed two more days. The second time we stayed in room MG004, which is the standard room. It is not deluxe. Once again you get what you pay for. But still it was spacious and comfortable and came with everything as in the deluxe room. I would spend the extra money and book the deluxe room for sheer luxury.
The house of MG is located well in the old city. You can travel to most of the places easily in an auto rickshaw.

The hotel has two wings, MG and CG. We did not stay in CG. My preference would be MG. The rooms face the road. There is a bit of road noise. But the sleep quality is good.
If I come back to Ahmedabad, I will stay here with no hesitation.

Room Tip: MG 205 deluxe room

The hotel was much a much hyped up one! While the ambiance of the building give an impression of a traditional Haveli, the service does not correspond that well to match the description and the price they charge!

There were no person to assist with my luggage and have to drag it to the reception, but assistance was received to take my luggage upstairs!

Don't expect the breakfast to be buffet, but with one main course from a listed menu, along with a small juice, coffee/tea, cereal and a bow of fruits. This was served in an open-air area adjacent to the dusty main road; if are alone, you wont get bored, since a group of house-flies always keep you busy and they don;t mind even sharing your food. I checked with a lady, seems to be a supervisor about the ambiance and she said they will shift the breakfast area to an air-conditioned area in the near future.

No room service! either you go down to the hotel restaurants or to the street and enjoy local food, a plenty around.

The suite room was huge and the bath area is also enormous in size, but hand-soap and body-lotion are provided in reusable bottles, and it seems the hotel doesn't have a philosophy of cleaning the bottle dispenser; deposits as old as the hotel can be found!

None explained the facilities in the hotel, but i met some friendly maintenance guys in the corridor and they told m about a rooftop garden and lotus pool (under maintenance).

Most of the receptionists posses a curious look, even though they did their job correctly, whenever requested; not even a smile is offered for free!

The hotel seem below par of the description and price, but an OKAY one, if they reduce the price.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Grand Suite, and it is very spacious with a sofa and swing chair

We 3 families stayed in House of MG in Aug 2016. From the time we entered the hotel to our check out, we were taken care of.
Their rooms are amazing & has the old charm. Even without AC the rooms a cool. This hotel is just opp to sidi sayed ki jali, which is a old monument. The rooms towards the road avoid them, if the balcony is opened, it becomes very noisy
The accessories in the hotel are very unique. the table cloth is embroider with buttons, the pillars at the entrance is covered in 10 paise coins.
The owner keeps coming & going & if he sees anyone in trouble, he'll make sure its taken care off. The toiletries, the bathroom are very well maintained.
The breakfast was good. The only thing is we found the food a bit expensive. They were regular gujarati food items, but priced very high. Their gujarati thali restaurant Agashiye serves the most expensive thali.
In all a very pleasant stay & unique.

Room Tip: Chose rooms that are in the interior. Not road facing.

Dear Guest,

Namaste!

Thank you such an elaborate and encouraging review. It is the constant appreciation of guests like you that keeps us motivated to always strive for excellence. With regards to the pricing at Agashiye, we believe that Rs.935/- + Taxes (Regular Lunch/Dinner - Weekdays) & Rs.1265/- + Taxes (Deluxe Lunch/Dinner - Weekdays) and Rs.1035/- + Taxes (Regular Lunch/Dinner - Weekends/Public Holidays) & Rs. 1350/- + Taxes (Deluxe Lunch/Dinner - Weekends/Public Holidays) for an unlimited full service sit down buffet with so many varieties in the kind of ambience that Agashiye offers, there is no comparative value that any other similar standard restaurant can offer anywhere in Ahmedabad. We look forward to welcome you back soon at The House of MG, a unique heritage property in the very heart of UNESCO nominated World Heritage City of Ahmedabad.

We visited House of MG with our family and some friends and really enjoyed the experience. The hotel is clean, beautiful and has lots of little corners to relax in - the spa, the pool, a swing here or there... lovely staff and very responsive to your needs. Hot tip is to go on the walking tour, particularly early morning. That was a real delight.

I'd definitely go again if ever in Ahmedabad again.
