There is something really likable about this hotel: stylish yet simple, classy but not ostentatious, modern but with a history, something inviting and warm which feels like a home.
I had visited 2 years ago and was happy on this recent stay to see that they have improved the breakfast which is now very decent. And I was delighted to see the wonderful lotuses more vivid than ever!
The whole staff is adorable, special thanks to a very efficient and professional Anjali at the reception. The Manager is... the night staff, ok why not? But who is here to really take decisions on the building? Well nobody in fact.
The problem is that the direction know too well that their hotel is good and they have stopped making efforts and real maintenance for the last 2 years… Their last visit was… 11 months ago!! Negligence is the word here. As a result:
- Huge problem of hot water already mentioned many times on this site, repairing would be very costly as the whole heating system needs to be changed
- In case of rain, windows leak severely; they need serious reparation (and a good clean up from outside)
- In my room, the desk was badly stained, curtains were hard to operate, sliding doors were not sliding anymore, bed was damaged, toilet flush did not really flush… All this needs to be seriously looked at...
- Daily clean-up is well done well but deep cleaning, scrubbing, whitewashing and repainting seem to be pending for a while

The direction apparently considers Purple Lotus as a cash machine in which they have no plan to invest any further. Careful guys, this is how you will lose your quality and reputation! Shame on you to mismanage this unique place!

Richard Delamour,
We apologise for the delayed response. Let me start by thanking you for your detailed review, I have made a note of all your pointers, and will ensure that they are all put into place. The persisting hot water issue is due to the eco friendly Bio brick water heating systems that we have adopted, keeping the depleting energy of the universe in mind, but however, we have taken care of it to a very large extent now.
We look forward to your return to purple lotus, to enjoy the positive vibes that exist on this ground due to the great history of the place. and also the living presence of the lady, who fought for the freedom of our country.

Happened to stay one night at this hotel. After seeing good reviews, thought to try it.

Some good points: Centrally located but in small lane. Staff was gentle though not polished. Restaurant ambience was good.

Room was okay types and breakfast was also average.

Bad point, manager told me taxes will be charged at 25%, which actually is 20.4%. After quite a discussion he agreed to charge actual tax, 20.4%.

Thank you for your review, It helps when we sometimes get bad reviews of our place. We have made a note of all the issues mentioned, we assure you that we will surely work on them.
We do have a 5% service charge, which we very clearly mention on all our invoices and prior to check in, so we have never faced an issue about this with any of our guests, I am sorry if you were not aware of it.
As always we look forward to the return of our guests, so that we can serve them better.

Anytime you're squeezed between the BMW and Lambourgini dealerships it's a good sign.

I was setting up rooms for a small group and its just what we needed.

Very clean, great breakfast concierge service that's top flight which is important for your first time in a city. The drivers they provided were great tour guides and super trustworthy.

It's modern, glass and metal furniture, but if you want the Ritz triple your budget and go for it.we're going back.

We are an indian-german family and we stayed in Purple Lotus for three weeks in October 2014. Our daughter worked in a social project during that time. As we shared one large room with three persons, we were very thankful that this wonderful hotel has many possibilities to retire. We could spend some time at the top of the hotel on the roof-deck or outside the room on the different balconies or at the ground-floor near water-plants and flowers. The hotel is designed as an open breezy house with elegant furniture and wonderful plants. It is in the best of taste. Our room was comfortable and clean. We were very impressed when we heared that in former times Purple Lotus has been the house of Shri M.V. Krishnappa, India's freedom fighter and Minister in Mr. Nehru's first post-independence cabinet. Purple Lotus is an historical place. We liked the people working in the hotel and we felt homelike in the warm and familiar atmosphere of Purple Lotus. We can recommend Purple Lotus very much. Saxena Family, Bremen, Germany

It has been a while, have not been able to respond to valuable reviews from our guest, but we sincerely like to thank you for your detailed review. Yes, purple lotus has great historical significance, and the vibes of the place go back to wonderful, positive thinking. Your daughter must have finished her project by now, Hopefully everything went out fine for her during her stay in India.
Thanking you once again, and welcome back to purple lotus.

The Purple Lotus is a real find (pun intended) in the heart of Bangalore, off Lavelle Road. The room is hardly a room - it's a mini apartment, with beautiful in situ floors and tons of space. The wifi worked efficiently without a glitch. The breakfast area is a treat, the pool and high stone wall gives a sense of the outdoors and belies the very residential location of the hotel. It is walking distance from great eating places - Sunnys, The Smokehouse Deli, The Glass House (excellent) and even an MTR. The one downer is the hot water in the bathroom - it's barely warm and despite several complaints (and previous ones on the previous reviews) seems to be a problem. Yet, I would rate the hotel as excellent because of the superb staff and service. Attentive and helpful and very prompt, they make a stay comfortable - I traveled alone, and even the late hour returns were not a problem with security and front desk always manned. They even couriered back my left behind pyjamas. I would definitely stay here each time I am in Bangalore.

I stayed here for about two weeks whilst on a business trip to Bangalore. The room rates here are cheap compared to the bigger brand names in the same neighborhood. Like what a lot of people have previously commented on, this could be a little hard to find initially as it is tucked at the dead end of a small road. The property is relatively small. You are greeted most of the time by the security guard who mans the gate almost 24/7. I flew in quite late and didn't get to check in until past mid night. Check in was seamless as everything has been prepared and arranged by the company. Rooms were nicely furnished and very spacious. This is a low rise property with a total of 5 floors including the roof top. Most of the space was outdoors so it could get wet in the hallways if it rains. My experience is that Bangalore is usually quite dry and even if it does rain it is shower that goes on for about half an hour.

The rooms come in a very large bed and a small TV that is in my opinion a little bit strangely arranged. It faces the bed at a relatively high angle. Nonetheless, it comes with a large number of channels including a lot of international broadcasts. All rooms come with free WiFi and normally the connectivity was quite good. I did struggle a little bit on my first night but this was quickly fixed the next day when the technicians were in. Service at night can be a bit slow or at some times absent as I believe there are only a number of staff who works at night. Bathrooms come with towels but there are no toothbrush readily available, but they are there on request. The same goes for hairdryer. Mosquitoes might be a problem but I don't think it's unique to the Purple Lotus as there are a vast majority of them in Bangalore. Hot water in the bathroom can be a bit hard to adjust to get the right temperature which I feel was my biggest problem at the property. It was either too hot or too cold and the water temperature refuse to stay the same.

All stays come with a very basic breakfast with limited selection of food. Among all the choices, the masala omeltte was probably the way to go.

I think Purple Lotus was neatly managed for a family run hotel. Staff are generally friendly and helpful other than at night, which was understandable. There are not much to it other than the rooms. Sleep quality was decent. This is definitely a place you could consider if you are on a budget for a long period of stay.

Its a very small property, tucked away in a small lane off MG Road. I had difficulty in locating. Rooms are okay, but not worth for the price they charge. Last night I came at 9 pm and the hotel was deserted...even the reception has only 1 bulb..Doesn't feel like hotel...It seems more like a B&B joint in Europe/US. Breakfast is modest. AC is not effective. Supplies are not of good quality. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
