A nice place to enjoy the nature. Huge lake, coconut tree plantation and great view of lake meeting the sea.

This is a huge lake a short tuktuk ride away from Varkala Cliff. The rentals of water sports look incredibly tacky and are more what I'd expect at a cheap funfair than an area of natural beauty. There's little to do here and when the sun is shining there is little shade except amongst the trees which line the lake area. The litter is astonishing and really does bring the whole look and feel of the place down. There's a little cafe called Sandy Toes which is a few hundred meters after the main bridge which offers welcome shade and breeze from the heat. It offers a choice of drinks of fresh juices including watermelon and ginger and also a viewpoint of multiple buffalo which was a welcome surprise on a disappointing trip. The litter is the main problem here.

The lake and the beach is separated by a small tar road. This lake has a few water sports and boating which you may use. If you are heading to Kappil beach, then it is worth to stop here as well for some relaxing time.

Kappil is a relatively quiet village North of Varkala and more enjoyable for its beach and the lake. People do swim here and the view are nice all around. However, the touristical offers (banana boat and silly stuff like that) are not what you would hope for in such a scenic place.

I stopped by there for about an hour. Beautiful scenery, with buffalos and wild flowers. A few swimmers there, but not a lot to do.
