Great Place to feel like a Royal..! Staff at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur are at your beck and call ever so ready to fulfill your needs/demands..! I am a hard one to be pleased as I find faults in anything and everything. Yet, this is one time that I never found a thing to grumble about or pin point..! Food is amazing, cleanliness is unmatched! Every time we stepped out of our room it was not only cleaned and linen replaced, but also our clothes were folded and the room was arranged. Food was amazing. Make sure to walk barefooted on the grass in the early hours when there is dew.. Breath taking view, Architecture. From the time we checked in till the time we departed they made us feel like a true Royal. It is not just a Palace converted to a Hotel.. Remember the Maharajah still lives there! You can play a game of Billiards or take a swim in the heated underground pool and be treated like a Royal! Wish we had more days to spend there! Just 3 nights is not enough!

Room Tip: Lawn side rooms are not recommended if you want a quiet night! When they have functions you can hea...

The Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the largest living palaces in the world, where the current Maharaja and his family still live. Today, a large part of the palace is an opulent Taj hotel. A setting and design so grandiose, that when I walked into the main domed reception area, it took my breathe away. Which is hard to do these days! The palace is actually not that old, built only in 1947, and perhaps because of that the finishing is so great. It has beautifully manicured lawns, a collection of hunting trophies displayed on the interior walls and the suites are a marvel of pure luxury.

Your experience here will be shear opulence and refined luxury. After all it was good enough for the wedding of Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar. The marriage may have terminated, but the palace is still standing in all its glory :-)

Room Tip: suite, suite, suite ... if you want to be adorned in pure luxury!

We stayed only 1 night and wished that we could have stayed longer. There were 4 of us and unfortunately all of us were not well. While we were having dinner, the waiter came over to our table and offered to make us home remedy drink. we took the offer and the drink was excellent and certainly did help. Everyone was soooo helpful. On our arrival, we were greeted by several people and rose petals dropped on us. They also put garlands on us. The day we went there, it was cold and windy and unfortunately couldn't enjoy the beautiful grounds. Hope to go again, God willing.

My wife and I just came back from a 2.5 week trip through Rajasthan. On our way back from Jaisalmar, we spent one night in the Umaid Bhawan Palace. I wish we had stayed longer.

On our arrival, we were greeted by several people and had rose petals dropped on us. Walking through the entrance of the hotel, we were immediately impressed with the grandiosity of the hallway, dome roof, and abundance of marble. Check-in was very smooth and we were shown to our beautiful room with a nice balcony overlooking the garden in the back of the palace by a pleasant woman named Alka. The garden is well manicured and there are peacocks running about. Shortly after check-in, we heard some nice music outside. When we looked over our balcony, we saw 5 men performing folk music! Good timing on our part I guess.

The room was large, clean, and well furnished. The bathroom was large and beautiful as well. The royal family still lives in a large portion of the palace, and my understanding is that no two rooms in the hotel section are identical.

Service in the hotel is excellent and was as good, if not better, than the other Taj or Oberoi properties we stayed at during this trip.

A buddy of mine and I went up to the Sunset Pavilion and took nice pictures of the sunset while enjoying a beer. Service there was great as well. I would suggest a couple of heat lamps during the winter months since it was a bit cold.

We had dinner at Risala which was a nice, semi-formal, Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. You get the sense that they will make anything for you, even if it's not on the menu. The breakfast buffet was delicious as well. and they will bring you food that's not even shown on the buffet table.

There is a beautiful indoor poor below the hotel. Although it's nice to look at, the water temperature was cold so we didn't use it. I didn't get a chance to walk the garden and check out the out door pool. I did get a haircut in the spa, and it was probably the nicest haircut experience I have ever had.

The business center has 1 computer, which is free for unlimited time. This was nice since I didn't have to stare at the clock while browsing the internet, however other people felt the same way so the computer always appeared to be occupied. Perhaps if they add 1-2 more computers there wouldn't be this problem.

The elevator is old - maybe historic? - and my wife and I found it difficult to use since you had to open the heavy doors by hand. We ended up using the stairs the majority of our stay.

Overall, the hotel was one of the best we have ever stayed in. We also stayed in the Taj Rambagh hotel, but we liked Umaid Bhawan better. In my opinion, if you visit Jodhpur, you MUST stay at this hotel if you get a chance.

Room Tip: Eat at Risala if you get a chance!

We stayed in 6 rooms. 3 normal ones, & 3 suites on our way back after visiting Jaisalmer. Found the size of the rooms to be excellent.

1 of the suites size was decent. The other were , surprisingly, smaller than the normal rooms we'd taken a week before. the staff informed us that since it's a palace converted into a hotel with some sections, hence sizes are not fixed. On the whole, i think it adds charm, since none of the rooms were identical.

The food quality & portions are excellent. There is a grill in the lawns on some nights. The food here is some of the best i've had ever.

The indoor pool is simply beautiful, the landscaping superb all around. the open area of the coffee shop facing the lawns is not to be missed. Very scenic & peaceful.

a slight issue we'd faced was with the air-conditioning in one of the rooms we were given. Servicemen cam immediately, however it broke down again at night & had to be repaired. apart from this minor glitch, excellent

all in all, our vacation here was beyond comparison.

I've been to this amazing palace a couple of times , however a few years ago. So recent renovations I'm sure would have added value to this amazing Palace.

@mods: earliest possible date chosen, trip was a few years ago.

Room Tip: We stayed in 6 rooms. 3 normal ones, & 3 suites on our way back after Jaisalmer. found the size...

There is nothing we didn't love about this place. It's one of the palaces and residences of the king of jodhpur and it's quite a fantastic example of elegant architecture. The hotel has several restaurants and our fav was sunset pavilion. Lovely ambiance and food. The flambé dessert selection is priceless. The rooms were what you'd expect from a $300 hotel room. The best hotel in the country. Hands down

Regal in every way. Hard to find accomodation, even with the high prices they charge, this place apparently fills up in peak season. But once you are in, the place is classy beyond comparison. The restaurant serves delicious food too and our server was impeccable. So if you are looking for a place to splurge and live like a Maharaja, you found the right place.
