I love Mountain Ridge. I suspected I would, based on the glowing tripadvisor reviews, but it surpassed my expectations in its beauty, tranquillity, and hospitality. I hardly wanted to leave to tour the city - indeed, I think many guests do an extended stay, so they can get their fill of the delicious air and restorative setting. We spent 3 days/2 nights at Mountain Ridge and took most meals there - such tasty and nourishing food - we loved it. I regret not spending time helping out in the kitchen! Amrit and his family and Elke were delightful hosts - we felt at home, always. Many and varied excursions can be easily arranged from Mountain Ridge, and it's 10-15 minute drive into Udaipur. Do go on a hike around the countryside, and if you're interested in birds and especially if you're doing an extended stay, I highly recommend bringing binoculars - it really was like being in an aviary. The Garden Room with its terrace is lovely!!!

I spent 3 nights in Mountain Ridge and enjoyed it very much. It is the perfect place to relax. It is a quiet place, where you can calm down. Everybody is very helpful, the food is excellent and the organise whatever you want. Taxi, Riksha, Massage and so on. It is a bit ouside Udaipur but in 15 minutes you are in the citz. If I ever come back to Udaipur, no question I would go again to this place. Thanks a lot to Piers and his team.

We intended Mountain Ridge to be our rest and recreation spot to get over flights and relax before a busy schedule. It was certainly that. Peaceful, lovely staff that will fall over backwards to help you and lovely rooms (but see below). The food is tailor matched to those staying. When we arrived it was non-spicy/European but next day it was more Indian (ourselves and another experienced couple) and our final day, just us, had a full blown local meal which was exceptional! Getting into and out of town is easy with their ‘contracted’ tuk-tuk driver “Mo” who will pick up and deliver you for 150 INR (this is good value, and I think tourists pay waaay too much for tuk-tuks) each way. Easily phoned when you want to leave (allow ½ hr).

Mo will even get you an indian sim card at no commission (50 INR for sim, 100 for tariff I added another 100 later). Please use him, its high usage that allows low rates. Useful for the rest of the trip.

It really IS peaceful and relaxed. The home made lemon juice is amazing. The staff fabulous. The easy walk to the lake view is lovely, people, animals, wildlife, birds, views.

It needs tables and chairs in the room. The pool needs filling (it may be by now). The guided walks are rubbish because its more a forced march behind the mute and bored ‘native, guide, he got no tip from me. The Kutputli Room has no chairs, tables and only a small table and two stools on the minute balcony – avoid.

Room Tip: Kutputli Room has no chairs, tables and only a small table and two stools on the minute balcony – av...

A quaint little place on the outskirts of Udaipur City. Amazingly beautiful surroundings, amazingly beautiful place and amazingly beautiful people.

The quiet and peace at the place really steals the show. A perfect getaway from the hustle-bustle of a busy city life.

We stayed in the "tribal room". The balcony faced west, and was perfect for viewing the glorious sunsets amidst the nature's lap.

The food is delicious. The breakfasts, and the snack lunches were particularly brilliant.

Being on the outskirts of the city, there is a trade-off of traveling more. But, not once did it occurred to us as a pain.

The family takes care of you very pleasantly, and are very helpful.

Will definitely be back in Udaipur, just for staying with the Mountain Ridge.

Room Tip: The "Monsoon Suite" is excellent. Go for this is it's available. Otherwise, all the ro...

Mountain Ridge is the perfect place to stay in Udaipur. The hosts at Mountain Ridge are so welcoming they really ensure you have a special holiday. Each bedroom has its own balcony which looks out over the hills surrounding Udaipur, making a wonderful view each time you wake up. Bathrooms and showers are very good and there is lots of communal space where you can eat, read, chill and relax. The food is excellent and plentiful. We will never forget what a wonderful holiday we had here.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very good indeed - one has an especially large patio.

Mountain ridge is a wonderful homestay, a little bit outside of Udaipur. The owner Piers is very friendly and helpful; he is just such a nice chap. We really felt like family during the 6 nights staying there. It's a place you actually don't wanna leave at all anymore. The food is delicious and ranges from indian to italien cuisine; we liked the variety. It's one of those places where everybody starts to talk to everyone. You can book a guide and go on a hike, which is very recommendable. It only takes a short tuktuk-ride to the city. We stayed in the room Monsoon Palace Suite, which is the most expensive one. It's an incredible beautiful big room with a fireplace. But also the other rooms looked very nice. There are also nice balconies, where you can sit and watch the sun go down. It's totally worth going, i recommend it highly.

We have started in Udaipur and with Mountain Ridge it could not have been better. Rajasthan cities can be a bit overwhelming, so it is great if you can take a Tuktuk out of the city to this quiet place in the country. It is a beautifully designed house, with Piers and his Nepalese family taking care of you as a friend of the family. You can lunch or dine together with the other guests at the big table, outside, and they cook great stuff: mix of Indian and Western food. During meals you can share your travel stories with other guests. Mountain Ridge is in the midst of beautiful nature, great rooms, very friendly staff and Piers!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Your first impressions of Mountain Ridge will probably be the space, peace, quiet and the breathtaking panoramic views. After a short acquaintance, you will feel that Mountain Ridge is just like home. There is nowhere quite like it for perfect relaxation, and though the city is merely a few minutes' away, Mountain Ridge is in another world...Mountain Ridge occupies the top of a high rocky bluff, just outside the ancient village of Sisarma. On the eastern side is a mountain that separates Sisarma from Lake Pichola and to the south our land is bordered by protected forestry land. To the west are the beautiful hills and valleys of the majestic Arawalli Range; with remote, scattered tribal settlements that are there waiting to be explored. To the north, rises Bansdara Mountain, topped by the formidable Monsoon Palace. The City of Udaipur is only a few minutes' away, so you are not far from the shops and landmarks, but the short distance from the city to Mountain Ridge makes all the difference in the world as far as the tranquility is concerned. The sounds of horns, brakes, loudspeakers and other noise pollution seem a million miles away. Mountain Ridge enjoys balmy days of fresh air and peace, and delightful velvety nights of gentle breezes and only the sound of crickets. There is so much you can do - swimming, trekking, going on a village safari, bird watching, mountain walking, having a massage or just sitting & relaxing with your favorite book with a soothing sounds of nature. Our cook takes a pride in preparing and serving mouth-watering Indian and International cuisine, and the rest of the staff are ever ready to ensure you have a pleasant and comfortable stay. Altogether your stay at Mountain Ridge will recharge you and provide you with happy memories of a rarely seen facet of India. ... more   less
