We booked a room at Coonoor Club for a trip during April 2017.

Its truly a gorgeous club & we were given a very large room with a huge bathroom as well.

Coming to the service, firstly the staff struggle with language, just about 1 or 2 know English. Rest all communicate only in Tamil. They do make an effort though. The staff that did know English took really good care of us. So that was a great.

We didn't have much for food since we ate out, but the little that we did have for dinner & breakfast was good enough. Nothing fancy. You have to be appropriately dressed (as per club rules) to eat in the dining area. Our travel clothes were all we had so we ordered room service.

If you have kids ask for rooms at the lawn area (room 6) so that the kids can play just outside the room in the lawn & you can also get a good view of the valley & the Kapoor & Sons house (McIver's) The room does not have a balcony.

Carry toiletries if you are particular because all they provide is a small Hamam soap. The club has no pool since the temperature is rather cool at Coonoor to take a dip.

Overall a comfortable stay though nothing to do at the property at all. One or 2 nights is just manageable at the property. I wouldn't stay there if it were for more days. Could get kind of boring.

Room Tip: Travelling with kids, then suggest rooms next to the lawn for the kids to play.

This is a British club almost a century old. We spent 3 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed.
1) Staff is extremely courteous and helpful.
2) Food was tasty..the club has a vegetable garden which grows cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. The veg sandwich is so sumptuous you can taste each vegetable since it is so fresh. Bar snacks like peanuts are super fresh and tasty. The bar itself is adorable with a fireplace that the caretaker painstakingly lights each evening, rendering the atmosphere very cozy and British. The property has some great floral arrangements with beautiful flowers.
3) Location is ideal, close to Bedford town and Sims Botanical garden.
4) The club has facilities like tennis, badminton court and gym (was shut). Evenings at the bar are very pleasant and it is refreshing to be in a place with no loud music...conversation is flowing along with the alcohol. Bar has a dress code so men should carry collared shirts and closed shoes.
5) Room was spacious and bathroom was the size of another room itself. We were in a suite, which had a heater and TV and hot water.

All in all a dream stay, if you happen to know someone with club affiliation. While in Coonoor do take the toy train to Mettapalayum or OOty (need to pre book on IRCTC). Beautiful Coonoor with beautiful people!

The sign above the bar says it all - a homely club where everyone is welcoming and welcomed. Old British bungalow with a great history, now very active with sports, cultural events and club nights every Saturday. Well done up rooms with private verandahs overlooking the beautiful hills of the Nilgiris.

I live in Coonoor and I am a member of this beautiful club.

It was a lunch visit on sunday. We saw the rooms which have been renovated and comfortable. The club is very old and a family friendly club. People coming here are regulars who come to play cards and spend time with friends.
Nothing much for a traveller
