The feel of the hotel is just wonderful stepping into the room one feels as though back in England circa 1900 (but with modern plumbing piping hot water tv etc). We arrived by bike and were suffering some mechanical problems, the staff could not have been more helpful in helping us to fix the bike and then calling around the town to find a shop that could fix the problem.
The bed was just about the most conformable yet, staff all spoke very good English. Great value for money.

Its rare - You walk into a hotel and know that this is a wonderful place - Thats The Gateway Hotel for you.
We recently stayed three nights at this hotel and had the best time ever. The hotel is really beautiful and each of the room is unique. The rooms have a fireplace to add to the heritage city charm.
The restaurant has very good service and food (contrary to some reviews).
The best part of this place its the people. The staff is extremely warm and helpful.

We would definitely be back!

Room Tip: Reach early and see a couple of room before you settle into one

Set in a wonderful 100+ year old property The Gateway Hotel in Conoor is a charming little place. The rooms are warm and cosy and surrounded by lawns edged with colourful roses and dahlias (I wish they had retained The Garden Retreat as their name). There's enough to keep one busy in case you aren't for curling up on a garden bench with a book. The food is a disappointment though and just not of Taj standard - I would avoid it completely. The rooms too could do with a bit of maintenance and there are some irritants like shower heads so low that having a shower is literally a pain in the neck even if one isn't tall.
