“Good location&clean bed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

This place was much tidy and nicer in comparison with the hotels which we checked before. The rate was little too costly for the rooms but we got hot/cold water, clean bed sheets and rather silent night+tasty breakfast in the morning. The Restaurant on the upper flow gives you a great view on the town but the food and the management are not that great:( Check the room before checking in. My parents were staying in the President apartment and that was really wow - everything white and clean+bathroom just wonderful!!Really worth it!

My sister, my dad and I stayed here in October 2011. This was our first hotel in India. The rooms are small and the views are not that great because mostly you are facing delapidated buildings on the outside. However, if you have been to India, and stayed in older parts of the cities, you will realize this is not uncommon and should not be a detterant for the average traveler. The restaurant has okay food and the bathrooms are clean. There is wi-fi in the lobby and a bar below the building that is open on week nights only. The best part about this hotel is that it is just a 1/4 mile or so from the temple district, and within walking distance of nearly every attraction you would see in Madurai. We found lobby staff to be somewhat dry in their interactions but the room service staff was great. Great place to stay overall for old town Madurai. The other side of the river has fancier places, but you pay and then have to commute to the historical sites. Also, the travel desk arranged for a ride to Munnar (a seven hour drive through foggy mountains) and we priced it on the street and in other travel agencies while we were there and it seemed fair and reasonable.

Room Tip: Try to get a street facing room and not a room facing the other buildings.

My stay here in this hotel was for a night Enroute Kovalam.

Hotel Location:
This hotel is situated just very close to the railway station in a very congested area, a word of caution to people who are driving down to this city “Drive Carefully”.
This hotel is at a walk able distance to the world famous Meenakshi Temple.

Hotel Parking:
A nice cellar car park is available in the hotel.
But when during my visit the hotel was under renovation, so they had whole lot of Items piled up in the cellar and with lot of Muck, the security man had dirtied the whole driver seat and had to complain it to the front desk of the hotel, the same was cleaned.

Hotel Rooms:
This was my second visit to the temple town of Madurai since 2010.
The room allotted to me was horrible where the paint on the wall was peeled and it really looked ugly. Also the room allotted to me was just close to the main road and the bathroom did not have a proper exhaust and the window panes were broken, hence lot of mosquitoes had landed inside the room and most irritating was the Bus horns since the window panes were broken.
The other horror was the room window air conditioners, they literally do not cool/ work at all, It seemed like the room did not cool even when the A/c was kept on for hours.

Hotel Restaurant:
The in house restaurant is good. The complimentary buffet breakfast offered is good with most of the south Indian snacks on the table.
Another advice would be is to stick to the south Indian menu as these people take a lot of time to serve North Indian dishes.
The restaurant staff does not look customer friendly.

Overall:
A OK hotel in the budget category, I personally feel the price charged is slightly on a higher side.

I stayed for one night. The room was clean and basic with hot and cold water all day.
There was renovation going on when I stayed and due to this these were some irritating noises during the day. Though this stopped at night, so I slept peacefully.
The roof top restaurant is good for dinner, food is ok, there was pleasant cold breeze and view is also nice. You can see the towers of Meenakshi temple from the roof.

The hotel is located walking distance from the train station, shopping, temples, everything is walkable. The arrived very late from Kanyakumari by train. We taken to a room on the third floor which looked like it had clean sheets but on looking closer the sheets were stained. The room was dark as the window faced a wall. We noticed the hotel was being renovated as peaking into other rooms on our departure day we got the short end of the stick. Make sure you ask to see some rooms before taking. My following day coughing fits, I realised that the room had mould in it. The breakfast was good, staff were helpful and remembered what we had and liked. The breakfast room was quite dark with little natural light. Internet is available in the libby. We had dinner on the roof top restaurant which was a disappointment as the food was cold. We had difficulty getting change .. which seems to be impossible to find in Madurai... However again the staff were friendly and helpful. Great location, no doubt in are renovated room it would be a pleasant stay.

Stayed here for a day while on our way back to Bangalore. The newly done rooms are good and spacious compared to the older ones.
Centrally located : just across the railway station and at walkable distance to the Temple. Just about right to get feeling of a busy temple town!

Food and service was good too...
