It is a great piece of Mogul Architecture and had stood all these years. Would have liked to see the fountains in operation

“Amazing but be aware of tour guide scams ...”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

To see the Taj at sunrise, make sure you arrive by around 6am as the queue can be as long as an hour on a Saturday. The 750 RPS for foreigners includes the shuttle bus from the ticket centre to the Taj, a bottle of water and shoe covers for when you enter the tomb. I would definitely recommend organising a guide to fully appreciate the experience but please be aware that if you don't go with an official guide, you are very likely to fall victim to a scam. Scams range from telling tourist they need to pay extra money on top of the 750RPS. Others will try and re-negotiate the price AFTER you start the tour. Don't hand over any money until AFTER you are satisfied that you have recieved all your services.
That aside, the Taj is a wonderful experience. You will need at least 2-2.5 hours to learn about her history and take all the obligatory tourist shots. Do not bring markers, electronic devices other than your camera, liquids eg anti-bacterial soap, roll-ons, makeup etc as these are not allowed in. The sign also says mobile phones are prohibited but you can take your chances with this.
For those coming on the train from Delhi, keep in mind some of the slower trains run very late (Up to 2 hours) so you need to factor that in when arranging your schedule. I would also highly recommend ONLY getting prepaid taxis from Delhi station to your next destination to ensure that you don't get hassled or ripped off.

“Impressive.”

You wouldn't think it could be, given how many pictures of it you have seen, but it really is.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

We hired a guide via our driver and this is the best way to go. I talked to friends who didn't have a guide and they didn't learn as much. Fabulous and a must see. Second to the Sistine Chapel Michelangelo for me!

My Indian friend pointed out that they have a smog and particulate counter located in the Taj on a wall. Our guide told us they moved all industries out of Agra to preserve the Taj. I only wish regulation of particulates would be done in India throughout.
