If you are after a traditional Balinese cooking experience in the most picturesque of settings, the green kitchen cooking class experience is a MUST DO!! My sister and I are from Sydney Australia and it is our first time in Bali. There are a lot of cooking classes around but we are SO happy we chose this one. They are situated in Ubud and picked us up from our hotel (all the way from Legian) and were so friendly to communicate with prior to pickup. We went to the local
produce market and were shown all the traditional bali spices and fruits, which we got to smell and taste as well. We were told all about Balinese food, culture and religion. Very interesting. He was very nice and answered all our questions in well spoken English. After we drove another 20 mins or so and we were welcomed into their BEAUTIFUL family home overlooking the rice fields. The family were preparing the food when we got there and taught us how to traditionally grind the spices, steam the rice, make coconut milk and so much more. I am very fussy and was a little worried about how the food would taste but it was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!! We chose a vegetarian class, food was so delicious, fresh and plentiful. The curry and black rice pudding was our favourite! The vegetables were fresh from their garden and we were shown the different plants growing as he explained the process of how it's grown (like the cacao tree). I absolutely loved the whole experience, we learnt so much and am so happy we were with such a kind and genuine family business! Thankyou to yoga for driving us all the way home too! We are eating the leftover black rice pudding now YUM

This location is off the beaten track... but worth the trip. The experience included preparing and cooking the ingredients for our vegetarian fare which tasted wonderful. Highly recommended.

The host was very good at explaining the process and methods used.

We had a great day at Green Kitchen. After the pick up from your hotel, the next stop is a local market where you can buy fruits, vegetables, spices etc.
After that you drive to the family house of the cooking teacher. He showes you his farm and you walk through the rice fields to a really nice typical kitchen in a little forest. Their you will spend the rest of cooking class learning to prepare different Balinese dishes.
We had a great time and I really can recommend this traditional cooking class!

It's been 3 months since our honeymoon in Bali & we are still reminiscing about our experience at Green Kitchen. My wife loves to cook and I love to eat her cooking, but this experience inspired me to get in the kitchen myself. We were accommodated for the cooking class very last minute, morning of and it was truly the highlight of our trip. Our host was very hospitable, answered all of our questions and educated us not only about Balinese food, but culture as well. The vegetarian food was incredible and if we make it back to Bali, we'd do it all over again!
