“Get out of my room!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

When we first arrived at midnight after our long flight we were super excited to be able just to get to our room and relax. When we arrived we checked in and the staff at reception were very friendly. They then found another guy to take our luggage to our room. He was very rude and not welcoming at all. When he put our luggage in our room he stood in the centre of the room and would not leave. We opened the door for him as we were tired and he just stood there and stared at us. Then he demanded a tip. Because we had arrived so late we didnt have time to change our aussie dollars to rph which we explained to him that we didnt have any rph on us to tip him and that we would find him the following day once we had exchanged the money, but he still refused to leave the room and demanded aussie dollars. I don't mind tipping the staff when they are friendly and helpful but this guy was just FREAKY! Eventually we gave him a few aussie dollars so we could get him out. He did not smile, thank us, NOTHING!
White Rose is nice, quiet & clean. The pool was fantastic and the staff at the bar were awesome. Breakfast was good, huge variety! Wi-fi was super expensive & very average.
All in all, good place for the price you pay!

Room Tip: Keep the plug in the bathtub or you will come back from a day out and your room will smell like a di...

Having always stay in Tuban I found this area was too busy for me. However the White Rose is tucked away from all of the Hustle and bustle. The breakfast was really good but have to say that the Hotel restaurant was quite pricey as was the spa.
The rooms were nice and clean but lacked in storage space for clothes.
I had a ground floor room facing the pool and found it too noisy with the late night revellers. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful but the reception staff had a superiority complex

Room Tip: If you want to have quality sleep do not have a ground floor room facing the pool

We was staying here 3 lovely days. It is in the heart of Kuta, 2 minute walk behind Ground Zero, but what a place. Beautiful rooms, with bathtub, and terrace outside, 1 minute walk too a lovely pool area, and everything is very clean and good taken care of. And all is so silent, I could never think the traffic jam is just 300 meter away from here.

The food is good, and staff is very service minded!

This will be my favourite next time!

Room Tip: Whatever you choose, its beautiful.

Moved to this hotel after a very disappointing unhygienic experience at the barong.
Have previously stayed here before in nov/dec 2010 and was really happy with it.
The staff are very friendly and willing to help. Always smiling and very polite.
My room was a triple room and we were expecting an extra bed with a thin old mattress but we were surprised to find that the mattress was the same as the other beds and very comfortable.
Sheets and towels are changed at tour request. And housekeeping was very good with bringing us extra towels.
Breakfast is pretty good and it's complimentary. One if the chefs there is amazing. Bottled water is also complimentary in the rooms.
The hotel grounds and swimming pool are beautiful.
Had no problems with this hotel at all. Will definitely stay here again.

The white rose was great value for money. I stayed there with a group of friends in June and it was the perfect location to experience kutas nightlife but the hotel was still quiet and peaceful. As a group of 18 year old guys we found that most people who stayed here were older couples and groups.

Security and staff were very helpful and there was someone behind the desk at all times which was very good for when we left our room keys there while clubbing until around 4am.

The hotel was great value for money as it was quite flash compared to other places around kuta.

Tip: don't eat from the hotels restaurant as it seemed over priced. Beers and food are both much cheaper in the street (50m away).

In my opinion, this place was not very nice, and I would not return. It has a combination of very good and very bad things, and I can see some people maybe liking it (but no one loving it), but for us (family with kids 8, 10, and 12) it was below our expectations even based on Trip Advisor reviews. We rented two rooms that were not adjacent but were very close, and stayed for just two nights.

First, the good …. The grounds are nice and well maintained except for the many water features (fountains, etc.). The pool was very nice, and though crowded, a nice experience, and they supply nice towels. Breakfast is included, and was good – not great, but definitely above good enough – omelets, fresh fruit, several breads, coffee/tea, etc., and they had a non-smoking section. Had lunch at restaurant near pool, where food was also very good.

Next, the bad:

* I found the staff unfriendly, with the exception of the check-in and welcome drink, and the ride to the airport at the end of our stay (very nice driver). Our reservations were made online through a third party site (Agoda) and the written confirmation clearly stated three children and breakfast included…..Despite this White Rose management were jerks about giving us a breakfast voucher for our son, as their “standard” is two per room. We asked for a roll-away bed (which we were happy to pay for), and they responded really really slowly even though it turned out to be easily available and already located in our building. When I asked for late checkout, they were inflexible even though they had almost no check-ins on that day, and kept trying to sell us on a “late checkout package” for $45 (we eventually paid for this). When we asked for a taxi, they were also very slow and we discovered they were only calling friends who provide taxi service … my wife then contacted Blue Bird direct, and we had our taxi. Overall, just came across as aloof and lazy.

* Internet in the lobby was rough $5 per hour. That is just lame….

* Rooms were small and old. Air conditioner in one of our rooms did not work (only the fan). Safe did not work in one room, and they did not fix even after being told at the very beginning. Bathroom fixtures old. One of the outlets in our room was dangerously removed from wall (see my pictures)

* Room had lots of bugs, mostly coming via sink and the above mentioned electrical socket...

* The water fountains and water gardens were disgusting.

* Many of the clientele were loud and obnoxious, due to alcohol and possibly some recreational drug use, which proved to be very annoying around at pool, restaurant, and in the rooms near us. The bar at the White Rose also sells cigars, which stunk! I was worried that we were too close to the noise of Kuta, but the bigger issue were the people staying near us.

Finally, the “it depends” or things outside of the White Rose’s control:

* Beds were very, very soft, and my wife and I had sore backs for many days later. Some people like soft beds, so this could be a plus....

* The location is right in the middle of the “action”, but the area is, quite frankly, a dump. To us, the Kuta/Legian area had a lot of lowlifes, both foreign and local. If your children can read, it is worse because every t-shirt, bumper sticker and tattoo place have all sorts of extremely vulgar items for sale, and some outright racist. Visitors staying near here are only in Bali for alcohol, drugs, sex, and partying….this is usually tolerable when that group is only a part of the tourists, but when it is everyone, it gets to be too much. That is not really the fault of The White Rose Bali, but it is a fact about the area they are in.

* Kuta is the dirtiest beach I have ever been to, and I have been to many beaches throughout Asia. Plastic floating EVERYWHERE. Locals selling things on the beach are numerous, aggressive, and offensive (I heard some rude comments made to attractive women). Beach is about a 20 minute walk .... this is very far if you have small kids, but was really not an issue for us.

Overall, the place was a bit of a disappointment. If you are a family looking for a nice week away and are considering Bali, my suggestion is to look for somewhere else, such as Lombok (we loved our week on Gili Trawangan) or Kota Kinabalu.

Room Tip: Ask about the people staying in the rooms near you, if you are trying to avoid heavy partiers.
