“Almost Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

We wanted a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of touristy Kuta/Seminyak areas of Bali. But we also wanted to be spoilt silly and have a little luxury. The Samaya Ubud doesn't disappoint. In fact, we got more! The resort is one of the most beautiful we've ever visited. And the level of service was second to none. In fact, it makes or breaks the whole experience and this is one aspect of the resort that we would rate the highest. Book the river villas if you can because the view is priceless. We are now planning our next trip to Ubud and of course, we are staying here again!

Room Tip: Book the river villas as the view is priceless! Don't worry about the sound of the river as the...

A very enjoyable stay in Samaya, Ubud. You won't be disappointed! We are happy about the wonderful villa, service and beautiful landscape. We enjoyed so much the views of the ricefield when having breakfast at Scene and the river view when having afternoon tea at Swept Away. Also it was great experience having hotstone massage at their beautiful room with garden view. The villa was already cleaned when we got back from our breakfast, very efficient! The butler service was fantastic and we were picked you up wherever we were in town! We stayed in Room 106 and loved the huge bath room with a spa and natural sunlight from the glass ceiling. You can ask them to cover the triangle glass on the wall facing the bed if you find it too bright in the morning! Do use the mosquito spray they provide when going out!

We stayed here for a few nights in June 2011. As other reviews have stated, the location is a bit out of the way from downtown Ubud, but we were looking for some peace and quiet so it was ideal. The views overlooking the rice fields are beautiful. Service was satisfactory overall. A few hitches which you do not expect in a 5-star property. And the inside of our villa was showing some signs of poor quality construction (cracks in the floor and wall tiles) and what looked like water seepage stains on the floors? The pool was also showing its age, and we didn't use it. Maybe a factor of how the villas are built, but again, something that needs to be addressed by a property that is purportedly a 5-star property.

I don't know whether to count myself lucky to have booked my overnight in Bali at the Samaya Ubud or to feel the loss of what could've been... We were picked up at the airport by the hotel car and the driver was so helpful answering all my questions as we drove. Upon arrival we received fragrant leis and a view of the rice fields and surrounding mountains that took my breath away! Then taken to our villa by a wonderfully helpful guide. Of all my travels, this villa was absolutely perfect, so private, the pool, the gazebo lounge area, our private in room dinner. I'm already planning a trip back to the Samaya Ubud, one night just left me wanting more!

As the title says, simply amazing! This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in and I have never been made to feel so welcome by every member of staff that I encountered. Each member of staff seem to really want to care for your every need and do so, quickly and efficiently without being intrusive.

The villa's are pure luxury. We had our own pool, day bed area and breakfast area which was in a really well kept garden and not far from the river.

The food was excellent also and served some of the best cuisine I've experienced and I've been to a few restaurants in London which could learn a thing or two from the wonderful taste and presentation of the food. All locally sourced and fresh.

Extra special mention to Anis (our favourite waitress!) Merta and the hotel manager Wayan who made us feel at home everyday of our stay.

Room Tip: Top tip? 100% trust in the staff, whatever you need they will get it for you! Service second to none...

We had a great stay at Samaya with a villa that faced the river. The villa was spacious, private, and the service was attentive. We even had a FOC bicycle trip with guide that took us off road to the padi fields and back (tiring but very fun).

It would have been a 5 star rating except
1) We found the villa to be a little dated looking
2) We both suffered bed bug bites on the final day*

I had over 50 bites on my body and saw a doctor when I returned, it was confirmed to be bedbugs. I wrote a complaint to the Samaya and they asked for photos of my bites. I sent the photos and they got in a pest company to check the villa. According to Samaya nothing was found (no bugs, no eggs) and they did fog the place as a precaution for other guests which I thought was good. However, instead of graciously apologising and immediately offering service recovery, the offer of an FOC (which did come in after I sent the pictures) came in the email with included a line that went 'The information we are receiving is that the timespan between someone being bitten and the time the symptoms appear is usually about 1 week to 9 days.' as if somewhat suggesting the bedbug bites could have happened elsewhere? This left a unpleasant taste in our mouths. Samaya, in future if you want to do service recovery, do it wholeheartedly. By the way this information was something they got off the internet, and it isn't accurate. Bedbug bites can present themselves within 24 hours of being bitten, and not 'usually about 1 week to 9 days'.

All that being said, I wish to be fair to Samaya and the staff there. We did have an enjoyable stay, (besides the bites) and the service was indeed good.

We spent 12 nights in Bali and split them between three resorts, the Samaya Ubud, the Legian in Seminyak and the Hyatt in Sanur. The Samaya was definitely the stand out of the three. From the moment we arrived we were treated with a genuine hospitality and this did not fade at all during our stay. We traveled with our 18 month old and the staff were so accommodating and considerate to her needs. We had been a little hesitant with our booking initially because of the layout of the suite, but once we were there we realised we had more than enough room to accommodate our portacot and generally have space for our daughter to play. The food was great (we had dinner at the restaurant twice) and the afternoon tea was wonderful and the special touch of having food specially prepared for me (i'm vegan) made our stay very special. I could not fault the Samaya in any way - the tripadviser rating is certainly justified. We look forward to returning to the Samaya in the future.

Room Tip: Although the Samaya is a little out of the main drag, the hotel runs a shuttle service to and from t...
