“Amazing beautiful villa”
Reviewed July 15, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed 3 nights and wish we had of stayed more. The staff were amazing, the pool devine and villa lighting and furniture was special. Lovely bathroom outside with a big tub. Eating in while the chef cooked was a treat and waking to the view upstairs was spectacular. We can't wait to go again. We went to Ubud a few times and couldn't wait to get back to the villa. It's really something special.

“Great place, worth the visit”

Hi,

I stayed here for 1 week with my wife and 9-month old son.
Our experience was more or less consistent with that of other reviewers, however we have made some suggestions for improvement directly to the owner as we felt that our experience wasn't exceptional, but easily could have been. I believe that others will benefit in the future.

All the good things already written before us are true.
Below are some tips for you to get more out of your stay:

(1) Engage with the staff. View them not as 'staff' but as local and real Balinese. For example, they have real lives outside of their daytime (or even 24/7) job of looking after you. Balinese lead culturally demanding lives which require them to plan, attend and even execute various religious and spiritual ceremonies (e.g. for birth milestones / deaths / marriages / new car / new house etc). Talk to them, ask them about their lives, get interested in their cooking, etc.

(2) Come with an open mind and get out and explore. The view when you walk in to the villa and across the valley is definitely stunning and will take your breath away. But it's a working valley with a road that runs through it on the other side. It does get noisy at times, especially with a resort being constructed just up the valley so there are trucks etc.
Get out and explore the valley: walk to the end of the driveway, turn right and keep walking until you cross the river and come up the other side (great view across to the villa!). Keep walking until the t-junction and turn right. This will take you ALL THE WAY into Ubud via the famous Campuan Ridge walk. It's worth it.

(3) Bring a pair of comfy house slippers. Downstairs is all sparkle and fresh with white tiles and infinity pool. The bedroom upstairs is rustic and open to the elements on all sides. When we stayed there seemed to be a bit of grit that would fall from the bamboo roof onto the floor.

(4) Enjoy Iluh's (or Gusti's!) cooking. You might not dine in every night, but it's great when you do.

(5) Smile and say hi to the locals. They will be everywhere and will return an even larger smile. Turn left at the end of the driveway to take you through the village. It's busy and full of life.

Just follow your nose and enjoy.

“This is the place to be in Ubud”

Villa Shambala was the perfect place for us. The villa is spacious, clean, contemporary yet still full of Balinese charm, and with the best views to relax into. The staff are fantastic and discreet as well as being ever helpful. The gem at this place is the chef Illuh. She is so talented we took home some of her recipies, and have already started enjoying them. The villa location is a short drive to Ubud central and a car can be arranged pronto and is very cheap. We really loved it and will be back. Terima Kasih

We had a pick-up to the villa (must do because not everybody can find it!).We walked in the villa after a long flight and thought we might see a receptiondesk. Then we saw the view over the valley and it turns out to be our villa...... No words can describe it. A beautiful and big place to stay with a beautiful and romantic view!! The service is just perfect, they will make anything the way you like it. Illuh and Dewa are perfect hostesses and cooks! They are always nearby to serve you in anyway, but they are never to much present which is a good thing. Because it is so beautiful we almost forget to see something of Ubud :). The villa is just like the pictures, could you imagine? It is all open, but very clean. Illuh, we still miss your pancakes!

Stayed at Villa Shamballa in April 2013 as was picked up at the airport, driver had a cool towel and drinks for the 1 1/2 hour drive to Ubud. We arrived and were welcomed by Iluh who took our bags upstairs. We were given a refreshing cocktail and relaxed by the pool to catch our breath, the view was amazing "Paradise in Paradise". Infinity pool over looking the jungle took our breath away. We soon unpacked and were taken to Ubud markets only 10 mins away after returning we were able to relax at the villa. Staff are amazing and are at your call whenever needed. Dinner was prepared and was also amazing. Upstairs was the bedroom which was very comfortable with joining ensuite. I cannot fault anything from the Villa and would highly recommend to everyone.

“Our Villa Shamballa Honeymoon was Heaven on Earth!”

We had the most wonderful time during our stay at Villa Shamballa. From the beginning, communicating with owners Atsu and Wendy was easy and they even helped us navigate our way through the Bali airport once we arrived! The Villa itself was pristine, clean, and beautifully decorated with simple touches of Bali artwork and gorgeous furniture. We cannot stop thinking about all of the delicious meals we had cooked by the chef Iluh. She is a worldclass cook and we ate many meals there for very affordable prices...my mouth is watering just thinking about it! The location was quiet, but not too quiet! You felt secluded but still a part of the Bali life happening around you. Iluh & Dewa (the resident staff) arranged everything we asked for with ease, from massages to drivers. Everything was fantastic and we wish would could go back ASAP!
