Safed is a strongly Jewish town that strictly follows Shabath rules which means that virtually every restaurant closes from sunset on a Friday until late afternoon on Saturday. As the Ruth Rimonim was the only hotel we could find that would supply a meal on a Friday we booked in for two nights. Our meal on the second (Shabath) night was lovely although not quite so good on the previous night. It was very busy the first night with tour groups and on the second with locals who chose this as the only place to eat. As a non-Jew I was amused that the elevator had a Shabath setting on the lift which meant that you could not summon the elevator. It stopped automatically on every floor so that you did not have to press a button.

The hotel is beautiful with amazing food. However, the customer service is null. Hotel has many floors and no elevator in some areas. No assistance was offered or provided to assist with luggage. Also, the two times I inquired at the front desk, the woman was having a lengthy phone call and could not be bothered to even look at me while I was waiting at the counter for five minutes. Internet was reasonable efficient. I would stay here again and just know that the customer service is the worst part of the experience.

Beautiful old hotel with tons of history, a maze of paths like a shouk. Our room was very quiet (apart from the dawn chorus - magical) very private with excellent proper king size double bed and great bathroom with spa bath. Well equipped with kettle, TV, chairs to sit outside, bathrobes, safe. Breakfast is legendary. Good gym. Pool was not operational in early March. Great views. Lots of nice little touches - sachlab on tap in reception.
Within 10 min brisk walk of bus station and tourist shops but this would be a stretch in the hot weather.
My only quibble was that many of the reception staff had no English whatsoever which made any changes to reservations, getting taxis etc quite a challenge.

Room tip: New block has lifts and better accessibility but old building much more atmospheric

Even in the solid rain for my two day stay, this is a lovely hotel in the most interesting buildings. An amazing rainbow appeared over the valley as I breakfasted.
In view of the cold, I was disappointed that there were no instructions about the air- conditioning unit which is a very effective heaterl. I did find heaters in the cupboard and an extra duvet.
There were no instructions for the more complicated television set up.
