This is a perfect place, for the right sort of person. I lead with that statement, as I don't want to mis-lead anyone who enjoys all the facilities and choices a 5 star establishment can give. To me and my wife, 5 star luxury covers all those things plus so many more.
From the moment we arrived at 8am, and was told we could enjoy an added bonus of a breakfast and early entry to our room, we knew we had chosen the right place.
The room we had was on the first floor, right on the beach front. The room is big, with a huge bathroom, a decent sized kitchen with two hobs and a large fridge. The lounge had a two seater settee and two chairs, and a single bed in place (great for an afternoon siesta from the heat.) There was a TV with news channels to keep updated of the worlds woes, ITV choice, and a movie channel in English if the weather did becone a little inclement. it also had it's own free wifi point, making checking emails and posting jealous inducing pictures on social media a little easier.
Breakfast isn't a huge 2000 item choice piece found in big hotels. You get fruit juice and either tea or coffee, a range of fresh fruits; from oranges, jamelah pears, or mango type fruits. I presume these will change with the fruits available in season. You also get a basket of hot toast, butter and jam. One morning we got a plate of cheese, and another morning we got a light and delicious omelette. This is aimed more for our continental friends, of which the Apartments has many French, German and Dutch visitors.
All of the staff are fabulous, working tirelessly all day to be available and ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. Gracey is there to pick up the phone and deal with anything you need, as we had a problem with our car and she dealt with is without a moments hesitation; and this was a car we had booked ourselves, nothing to do with the apartments. Between Gracey and Michelle, her right hand lady, they ensured we had a day trip to remember to the islands, even though it was short notice and it too them a few times to try different companies to find the right trip for us.
Januarie kept our rooms spotless, created fabulous towel artwork, and even made sure other reception type problems were dealt with efficiently. Her husband, Randy was always present, keeping the grounds in perfect shape, clearing away leaves, and neatly raking the sand; which we always felt a little guilty placing footprints on.
Jamelah has a big carpark, private, and safe, and guarded by the Major, the apartments lively old dog who is always willing for a bit of affection, or finding a shady cool spot to while away the day. The only time he barked was on seeing a friendly member of the staff's family, or one morning when a stranger wandered onto the grounds. My wife isn't a dog-person, having been bitten by one as a child, but she willingly took to major without a problem.
The location is very handy for Victoria and the airport, and most point around the island. The beach and sunbeds are on the doorstep, and you can enjoy the sun rising and passing overhead until it dips behind the mountains. The tide doesn't go out too far, and you can swim in the waist deep waters when the tide is in, although it can be a little choppy at times.
Finally, there are Simon and Bella, and their family. These are the giant tortoises who are part of the Jamelah family. They rest in their enclosure, willing to fight for a fallen pear and some gentle attention from the holiday-makers. They are well-cared for, as can be seen by the fact that they sleep with their heads and limbs out of their shells, a sign that they feel safe.
Some of the staff live on-site, making them available when required, but also making it feel as if this is a family business. They also make it feel as though you are brought in to their family, even for that short time you may spend with them.
A fabulous place to enjoy and relax in, and the pennies are being saved in anticipation of a return in the future.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies and are no more than 30 metres from the beach. All face the beach.

We stayed there last September and had a joyfull time. The guesthouse has it's own beach and we had a beautiful beach view from our terrace.
The appartment was very clean when we arrived and also was kept so every day by the nice housekeeper who also suggested us which beaches to see near the guesthouse and where to go shopping for groceries
The whole staff was very pleasent and helpful.
We also ate very delicious Creol food prepared by a very cool cook with whom we had a fun time.
The charming coordinator Grace suggested us nice trips to La Digue and Praslin which where very good organised.
We loved the dogs at the property, they where so funny while cooling down on the ceramic terraces.
And of course the tortoises - amazing creatures!
We decided when we travell again to Seychelles that we stay at the same place!

I picked this hotel for a 1 night stay based on the TripAdvisor reviews and the proximity to the airport. After my experience there, I really don't understand the glowing, enthusiastic reviews at all. It is clean and the breakfast is adequate, but overall the place is just OK at best. There is only 1 place to eat within walking distance (the hotel across the road) and you have to reserve with them by 5:30 pm in order to eat there. The night we were there they were closed for a private function so we had to buy snacks at a convenience store and have those for dinner. If you want to eat anywhere else you'll need to rent a car, take the bus (and the buses stop running at 7 pm) or take a taxi. Just a word about taxis on Mahe: they are grossly, grossly overpriced. For example, the negotiated taxi rate from this hotel to the airport is 300 rupees (roughly US$23) for about a 5 minute ride. Compare and contrast: I just took a 46 km 1 hour trip using uber from the Lisbon airport and it was 36 Euros (roughly US$40). The beach here is pretty, but the water is so shallow that you can wade out hundreds of feet and still be only knee deep, so not really good for swimming. In summary, when I compare the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor (Where have you people been staying in the past that you think this place is so great???) to the "Just OK at best" reality of this place something about it just does not pass the smell test.

The guest house itself not a big deal, but the treatment and welcome was heartwarming. Gracy and the staff are very friendly and lovely people. Thanks to them Jamelah guest house is not just a forgettable accomodation, but a nice memory from Seychelles.

we wanted our hotel to be on the beach and thats what exactly this property is. Our room was on the first floor. From every corner of the room you could see the ocean and hear ocean waves. Its a very nice property to stay in. The service is excellent. The rooms were cleaned everyday. The breakfast doesnt have much options, pretty simple one but its included in the room price. The kitchen had all necessary utensils. It has bus stand and a shop with all necessity just opposite to it. Airport, Victoria are all very close by to this property. The beach situated on may not be good enough for swimming but its private beach to have. we very much enjoyed out stay there. the rooms doesn't have wi fi, for which you have to go to the reception area...but hey...who wants wi fi on holiday....surely we didnt. So, it didnt bother us at all. the host Ms. Gracy is a very sweet, charming and helpful lady. She arranged for a taxi at the ferry itself which we used for next 4 days we were in Mahe. Gave us good tips for shopping. A very wonderful host and human being. We would definitely recommend this property who would love to have an access to private beach and would sleep and wake up to the sound of ocean waves. very very beautiful property. And yes of course they have their own pet tortoise there, which you feed if you feel like :)

Room Tip: all room have sea view garden view...you can pick any room, all are great

We stayed two weeks in the bright, clean apartments here, alongside main building. We had a kitchen with fridge and gas hob, large bathroom and a bedroom/lounge with tv. The room was kept very clean, and sheets changed every three days of our stay. There is a simple breakfast of fruit, toast and tea. The grounds are beautiful and the sand was raked every day of our visit. The beach is incredibly beautiful, but as Seychelles beaches go, not the best for swimming or spending a whole day on as it's shallow and not as wide and pristine as some others here. Wifi does not work in the apartments - you go to veranda of main building. It is slow by UK standards but normal for Seychelles. It worked fine all but two days of my visit. Staff were all friendly. So, all in all, it's a good option at this price point.

I am sad to say that our three nights at Jamelah guest house were one's that we wish to forget forever. My mom and I had travelled from Kenya on my day's off from work, and she was on holiday visiting me and we were so excited for a vacation together. We had chosen Jamelah due to the great reviews of customer service, but we received nothing but the opposite.

We organized our airport transfer with the manager. The driver was not there to pick us up. The manager proceeded to call the transfer provider on the phone while we were in the office with her and got to chatting about how they had been partying the night previous and that was the reason we were left behind.

We had specifically requested a ground level room due to a terrible knee injury I had. This was confirmed in the booking.com communications and we were assured that our room would be on ground level. We arrived and this was not the case and we had to walk up the steep stairs to get to our room - wouldn't have been an issue if we hadn't requested and I hadn't had a horrible injury.

We had also made confirmations that there was functioning wifi due to my very time sensitive work needs back in Kenya. We had learnt on arrival that the wifi was not working. This was frustrating, although, understandable. Not easy to find wifi hotspots on the island either, so I would recommend getting an Airtel SIM card to solve those problems.

Overall, our expectations were certainly destroyed on the horrible service received at Jamelah.
