THE Tango Taichung

Reviewed 6 May 2011

The Tango isn't in the most exciting part of the city but its ambience and staff professionalism made up for it.

Even with a triple sharing, the room was comfortable and relatively spacious. The gym is only opened at 3pm but the staff were very helpful to pre-open it for me at 8am. The next day, I found that the gym was already opened - that is thoughtful service.

The Tango is nearer to the HSR rather than the TRA but cabbing around is generally cheap and convenient.

1. Location: Purportedly in the new growth area of Taichung. Lots of eateries and shops around. Not near the larger malls, though. Also, some distance from the HSR (high speed rail) and TRA (taiwan rail authority) stations too. What's good though, is that the hotel provides pick up and drop off at the former; for pick up, contact the hotel beforehand for pre-arranged times.

2. Staff: Taiwanese service and hospitality staff are usually great and this hotel's is of the same high standards. Competent in English too.

3. Rooms: Usual to all Tango hotels: free drinks and snacks (pineapple tarts), bath with jaccuzzi and tv. Comfortable beds.

4. Facilities: Nice spa facilities, with sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym, etc. However, opens a tad late (3 pm) and for men only . . . which is a little strange why they don't have similar facilities for women. Free internet access and computers at lobby area.

5. Breakfast: Good spread, with attempt to vary food offered. No complaints here.

This hotel is a bit of the let down compared to the Tango hotels in Taipei. The rooms are comfortable and quiet enough (except my desk chair was broken), but the gym and sauna area is in need of an upgrade and repair. It is next to a Gordon Biersch restaurant and Carrefoure, which is handy. The staff is also professional. It seems the hotel market in Taichung is a bit competitive and there are many other choices.

Stayed at the tango taichung for two nights. according to the map on their website, it is supposed to be relatively near the jing ming yi jie district, but it turned out to be much much farther. service was good. the room was very clean and comfortable. we got the room at a discounted rate because of a promotional package. overall, i would say that it has been a very good experience, and I would really recommend this place for travelers on business trips.

Good hotel with modern touches. The spa/gym not opening until 3 pm seems odd and out of step with present day hotelier. The spa is Japanese-style with its hot and cold soaking pools and steam room. I suggested to management that they require men to wear bathing suits and make the spa family friendly.

The Gordon Biersch brewery restaurant a block away provides an opportunity for travelers and locals alike to sample some American-style micro beers and chow.

Stayed here for a week with my husband. This place is a gem and a pleasant find. Pros: Staff spoke decent English, Clean rooms, Jacuzzi tub with disco lights and phone in bathroom, Helpful doorman and front desk staff, Awesome cleaning service, Stocked up amenities/toiletries ie. toothbrush, mouthwash, q-tips, comb, etc, Complimentary buffet-style breakfast was very delicious and had great variety even for westerners like us and stuff for locals, Great location near lots of shopping and dining (from upscale restaurants to fast food and even a Gordon Biersch), overall we were pleasantly surprised with all of these luxuries with the price we paid! It was a steal!
Cons: Took one star off because the fitness center hours were from 3:00pm-10:30pm (I prefer to work out in the morning). In addition, our particular room's thermostat was not working well and it would get cold at times.
