My husband and I, traveling with a small alumni group, stayed in five accommodations during a recent Safari in Tanzania, including three “Serena” branded hotel/lodge/camp accommodations. All Serena properties were upscale and exotic with nice decor and landscaping and excellent service. I will review each of the three separately. The Lake Duluti Serena Hotel is called a hotel rather than a lodge or a camp because it is in Arusha and does not have wild animals at large on its grounds. We stayed at the Lake Duluti hotel only a short time (arrived late one night, left early the next morning for Tarangire National Park, known for elephants) but we had a premium room with beautiful wood carvings on the headboard and a built in hairdryer that works. They also have non-premium rooms -- our group arranged for “day-rooms” on the day we left Tanzania from Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha, which were great for taking a shower and relaxing but the rooms assigned as “day-rooms” were not the hotels’ finest. This is just a comment not a complaint; we are very happy the hotel accommodated us with day-rooms before our long journey back to the US – they appropriately save the best rooms for overnight guests. I cannot comment on the cost of this particular hotel (since we paid for a package that included five hotels) other than to say the Serena branded accommodations were a luxurious treat during Safari in Tanzania. Although this Serena Hotel is urban, rather than out in the wild, it is a beautiful property.

Lake Duluti was the perfect hotel after our long flight from the USA. Bungalo rooms were quiet, well kept, and comfortable. The property teams with flowers, birds, and other small wildlife. Service in was great by all staff, from greeting, to check in, to restaurant. The minor downside was a somewhat limited menu at dinner. But the items that were offered were well prepared and tasty.

We stayed at Lake Duluti Serena for 2 nights in June and loved it! The rooms in rondavels are comfortable, spacious and clean. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was good and the bar was lovely. We loved our first animal sightings on the property--blue monkeys! It was a nice base for exploring Arusha and recovering from jet lag.

Room Tip: We did not have a lake view; I'm not sure if any do. There is a lake view in front of the lovely main building.
