If you are looking at this review, you are probably trying to which safari company you are going for. I have to say initially it was quite daunting to make payment in advance without seeing the overseas actual operator. But I can reassure you Ajabu is genuine and ran by Anja and Gertjan. They might not have replied emails very quickly but offer excellent and value for money service overall.
Big thumbs up to our guide Mbasar was welcoming and professional. The daily starting was very flexible to our needs. We managed to see all big five and the migration. Our guide worked very hard when driving on some of the worse road I have seen in the national parks. Be prepared to stay in the jeep for a very long time. We also had the trip arranged to see the Masai village which was eye opening experience to see how they live tho didn't quite enjoy them being a little pushy with selling stuff but I guess that quite normal for tourist.
We also visited the banana plantation with a guide called Michael who was excellent in telling us how local people live and banana trees are planted. The reflects more what the realities are like for Tanzanian.
If you want to get any gifts like hand craft wooden sculpture I would recommend buying it on the banana plantation tour when you are taken to a shop where it is made and the owner there is ultra nice and friendly. Wish we had time to browse.
Choice of accommodation during the safari Recommended by Adjabu was amazing and beyond our expectation especially in KUBUKubu.
We spent ten days on safari perfectly organised by Anja and Gert who put together a fantastic itinerary for us to see the northern Tanzanian parks. Hard to pick out the highlights since each day gave us so many memorable moments. Tree-climbing lions in Manyara, migrating herds of wildebeest in the Serengeti, the awesome Ngorongoro crater, a night safari, an early morning balloon ride followed by breakfast, getting close up and personal with elephant families, watching the day-to-day fight for survival - you name it we saw it. 2500 kilometres in a great off road Land Rover (envied incidentally by many of the Land Cruiser drivers we met) driven by the inimitable Juma who could spot a leopard miles away up a tree at the same time as negotiating rough tracks and found us memorable picnic spots each day to eat our packed lunches, as well as remaining helpful, friendly and knowledgeable throughout what were often long and gruelling days of driving. Each lodge/camp we stayed overnight in brought new excitement, buffalo snuffling around in Kubukubu, elephant only yards away from our tent in Tarangire. Never a dull moment, it may well be our last safari as we are not as young as we were, but what a holiday to remember! Thank you Ajabu for making it possible.
We had a fantastic Easter break thanks to Ajabu Adventures! The safari car was comfortable and we could even charge our phones and cameras en route. Our guide Isa was absolutely the best and a great spotter. We saw hundreds of elephants and giraffes. He was very sensitive to our needs and managed to include perfect photo stops. Not only that, he was also a great friend to our children (4 and 1 years)! We can absolutely recommend this company.
For us a perfect safari consists of a good guide, comfortable car, spotting the Big Five, unexpected adventure, witnessing a kill, seeing a cheetah so close you can almost touch him, lovely lodges/tents, good weather, delicious food, new knowledge.
Ajabu Adventures made all of this possible for us!
Special thanks to our friendly and more than good guide Juma!
We hope to come back to Tanzania in a few years for a Ajabu Adventures safari.
Ajabu sana, kwaheri! Many thanks, The Nap Family
Words cannot describe what an incredible safari we had with Ajabu Adventures....but I will try my best! It all started from the very first time I reached out to the company to inquire about their services. ANJA was so helpful, informative, kind and patient with me (I had many questions) and walked me through the process so we could create the adventure of my dreams! When we arrived in Africa, our guide JUMA was there to greet us with a big smile and a warn heart! I don't know how we got this lucky....but I think we might've gotten the best guide in the world! ;) He was very informative, a master teacher, a kind soul and such a fun spirit! When going on a safari, you spend many many hours and days with your guide, so it's so important that you have someone great....and that is exactly what we got with Ajabu Adventures.
Everything was perfect on this trip. The destinations, the accommodations, the food, the animals, the skies, the people..... it was much much more than I ever expected. And to top it off...we saw the BIG 5! We did not go with that expectation, but it happened and I am so grateful. This safari was the MOST incredible experience I've ever had and I am forever changed. Thank you Ajabu Adventures! ASANTE SANA!!!!!
For a long time I wanted to have a trip with my daughter to s special place for her 15th birthday, so we decided Africa as one of our dream destinations. We started our search with SafariBookings and of six companies I quoted, only two replied and only Ajabu was eager to design for us the perfect trip. We had requested to visit a place involved in wildlife conservation and Manyara Ranch, under the African Wildlife Foundation, accepted to receive both of us in the house of the manager Mr. Fidelis ole Kashe. Accomodations had to be arranged by Ajabu ( because that is not a lodge or hotel) and we had a wonderful 2 day and 2 nights stay with very special staff, such as Dr. Lemaly Kibirity and Ajabu staff Shakila and Mary. We had the most wonderful guide, JUMA YUSUF, perfect for us who have been in contact with organizations and parks that are engaged in nature conservation projects. With Juma we discussed not only wildlife and animal behavior, but also engaged in discussions about anthropological and social issues about the local cultures. Well prepared, and always with a smile, we truly felt safe and happy around Juma. We visited Manyara Ranch, Serengeti, Nogorongoro Crater, Tarangire and a small Maasai boma, out of the tourist route. I am very grateful with Anja and Gertjan for all their follow-up before, during, and even after out trip to Tanzania. I would give all the Ajabu team a Gold Medal :)
