We visited this restaurant on the back of another Trip Advisor review. We went in the late afternoon / early evening as we have a two year old daughter so the fact that there were only one or two other tables occupied is not surprising - or is it....? I did note that the reviewer we followed often buys the seafood to take home and cook himself!
There are the usual tanks with live prawns, fish, crab etc and the seating is the classic wooden tables and chairs with a trolley at the end with ice bucket and glasses.
Steamed Crab - 4 crab - 500 THB
Grilled Prawns (Large) - 10 Prawns - 600 THB
Fried Morning Glory with Chilli and Garlic
Fried Squid with Garlic
1 Coke and 1 large Chang
Total 1595 THB
The crab and prawns were so fresh and absolutely delicious. If they are very fresh I love to suck out the meat and juice from the heads of the prawns and these were just superb!
The squid came (surprisingly) with large amounts of batter and not a lot of garlic. The oil had that "I've been used to fry too much food too many times" taste and this dish was very disappointing.
The morning glory was a limp effort to say the least - pun intended!-. No chilli, hardly any garlic and it was drowning in a mixture of low grade oyster sauce and the same oil used for our squid dish!
I know a lot of places see a Westerner and immediately, and thoughtfully, tone down any spice but as always my wife (Thai) told them to make our dishes as the Thais have them so no excuse.
There is no doubt that if you want fresh seafood you will be hard pushed to find fresher produce and I would come back here like a shot for the Crab and Prawns.
However, my advice is to avoid letting the kitchen do anything other than simple steaming or grilling.
We went to two other seafood restaurants during the weekend and both of them had much better cooking but Dao Thale seafood still had the freshest sea life.
