Reviewed 16 January 2012

Rooms are basic (no TV) but cute, and spotlessly clean. Bathrooms are on the same floor but not attached to rooms - although you will get an individual bathroom (ie not shared). I guess this is the structure of the Thai home, bathrooms are in a separate part of the house.

Hosts are trying very hard, it seems that the don't sleep at all - I went to bed they were working; I woke up they were working ))

Nice location by a wat. Plenty of bars and restos nearby.

A lovely hostel and highly recommended.
Very clean throughout.
Good breakfast and friendly staff.
Well positioned in the centre of town.
Would also recommend doing a personalised day trip with Wooth at Lannatrek Tour. --------.
Make sure the taxi from the airport drops you at the correct place as there are a few places with the same name of Baan Bua .........

We stayed 3 nights in Ban Bua in a room for 3 people (1 double bed+1 single bed). The house is really colorful and bright. The room was basic and not much space for 3 people and their bags, but the matresses were fantastic! Toilet is not in the room but you have your private one in another part of the house (opens with your key). Our toilet had some problem and the floor was always wet but apart from that ok. Staff is helpful and polite.
Location very good near night market and the old bus station with buses to Chiang Khong and Chiang Mai.

The first thing you notice about this place is the jazzy frontage (pink and green), a theme which is carried into the room (yellow for mine).

From the reasonably priced airport pick up, to the friendliness of the two owners, to the cleanliness of the rooms, this was a very pleasant experience.

Let's be clear, this is basic acommodation: a bed in the main room and a small table, and the bathroom at the back is open to the air (although covered over the toilet and shower area of the inevitable rain showers). That said, if you know what you are signing up for, it offers excellent value for money (1600 BHT for 3 nights I think) and it has bags of traditional charm compared to the chain hotel approach.

The owners speak a little English and are happy to help out with arranging tours and suggesting places to go and see. Location is also good, slightly off the main street but very close to the main "attractions" such as the clocktower and night market (which is excellent, by the way!)

Go on, give it a try!!

Baan Hua Homestay (not to be confused with Baan Hua Guesthouse) is in a great location and offer a very warm and friendly welcome. The rooms are basic but very clean, you can pay for breakfast and get tea, coffee and snacks throughout the day. It's 5 minute walk from the night market with bars and restaurants even closer but as it's away from the road it's wonderfully quiet. WiFi in downstairs rooms and in courtyard. Very cheap and very good quality.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our round the world trip and were really impressed at the cleanliness and friendliness of the place. We arrived quite late after coming from the Laos/Thailand border at Chiang Kong but we were warmly greeted by the owners once we got there. The place is REALLY brightly coloured although it is off the main road so you wouldn't notice it immediately which is a shame since it is one of the cleanest places we have stayed in south east asia. It felt like it had all been re-painted really recently and everything was absolutely spotless. We had booked a 3 bed dorm room although no one else stayed in the third bed for the 3 nights, which had an en-suite shower and toilet. The bathroom was kind of outside but there's no one at the back so you didn't feel like it was. We paid 180 baht per night per person which we thought was great value considering the quality. There was one computer with free internet all day as well as a breakfast menu from which you could order at any time of the day - I ordered the banana pancakes which I would highly recommend! There isn't much to do in Chiang Rai itself although it is a nice place to come and relax for a few days. The second day we were here we just read our books on the upstairs balcony area which was lovely and peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and were actually quite sad when we left!

We stumbled on this place after checking out somewhere else listed in our guide book (which was terrible), and were really pleased to find it! It has lots of character and lots of areas both inside and outside to relax.

It just opened in October 2010 so I think we were lucky to find it. It is is close walking distance to the centre of Chiang Rai (the map on Trip Advisor has put it in the wrong place though!!). Free wifi plus a PC to use.

The couple who run it don't speak a lot of English but are really friendly and helpful, even ferrying me to the local clinic on the back of their motorbike when I needed to see a doctor.

It is really clean and a quiet place on a soi back from Jetyod Road - highly recommended!!!!

Not to be confused with the similarly named and closely located Baan Bua Guesthouse.
