Location is very convenient and easy to find. Building and rooms are in WW2 era. No lift have to climb two floors to reach reception area.Big room, not so clean with dust and mold in bathroom but not as bad compare to budget hotels in Bali or Jakarta. With ceiling fan no AC,above floor squatting toilet without any flush, after business you need to fill in a pail of water to flush off your business. Leak water piping every where in toilet. Stagnant water after shower.Bed are hard. Internet 70BHT for a day usage. 10BHT for half hour computer usage in reception area.No TV in room but available in the so called lobby. For info walk in rate double/twin is at 240BHTnett pricing. Area is very near walking distance to all necessary needs like shopping mall, restaurant, night market, wet market, train and bus station

This place is all about location. It's perfect. You're close to almost "everything". Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Markets are close and it's just a few minutes walk to the railway station.

Room was big, basic and clean. Bed. Hard. WiFi was good, you have to pay extra for this.

Toilet was the kind of squat toilet. No hot water, but don't expect that for the cheap price.

There's also a small restaurant at the lobby, selling cheap breakfast and some Thai food. Computers for rent at the lobby. They also sell tickets, drinks and some snacks.

Staff were polite and helpful.

Good for a short stay.
Guesthouse is totally worn down. Tiles are cracked and it looks filthy.

Noise from traffic is immense, especially at daytime. Ask for a room away from the street.

I am back in Thailand for a month and back in Cathay Guesthouse in Hatyai. It has the same prices as a year ago and I have met some of the same people staying there who I met before so it has a homely feel. It is popular mainly with other Asian travellers especially from Jspan. This year there are also a few Thai and Malaysia visitors. There is a constant flow of backpackers buying tickets from the travel agency downstairs on their way to and from Malaysia. The staff are still the same friendly people. One USA traveller had a broken backpack and Porn the manager sewed it up for him free of charge saving him from having to buy a new one. She is a very kind lady. There have been several new backpacker places built in Hatyai in the past year but this place has a good communal restaurant and computer area in reception which is open at all times except between 1am and 6am. Food is now served until 4pm. between 1am and 6am you need to buy a key card to open the door if you intend staying out late. It costs 200 baht deposit which you get back. The WiFi costs 100baht per day. Rooms remain 240 baht. When I arrived at 6am Iwas given the key to my old room 338 (the best one there) which has some new furniture and is quieter because it is not facing the road. Bathrooms remain the old style.
