Stayed for 3 nights in September 2015 with my wife, and had a most enjoyable stay. If you want clean simple accommodation with a nice pool and bar, plus very friendly service from Denis (the owner) and his wife, then this is an excellent choice. It is super value for money; the food and drink prices are very reasonable, and the portion sizes generous. Price includes free wifi (in bar area) and air-con in rooms. The rooms are laid out in the separate 'cottage' style. Ours was roomy, and included a fridge and TV. The bed may be a little firm for some, but suited me well. The hotel is situated on the banks of the river, about 5 minutes drive from Kanchanaburi. We had a hire car and drove to the Arawan falls and the dam on one day, and to Hell Fire Pass on another, although you could do both in a day if you get a move on. Also visited the Bridge Over River Kwai in Kanchanaburi and had a boat trip on the river (recommended, 800THB for 2 for an hour and half trip which stops off at the war cemetery and the Koapoon cave temple).

Situated a short 10 minutes' drive from the centre of Kanchanburi town, Xanadu 2008 really is a fantastic place to base your stay in this area. Spotlessly clean, great air-con, free wi-fi, fantastic food, and a lovely riverside location, you really can't go wrong with this place - and your friendly host Dennis will make you feel right at home.

We (a family of four) booked 3 nights in Xanadu, following the good reviews. The previous mails transaction with Dennis were good and understandable. This is not so common in Thailand. We had two connecting rooms that were nice, tidy, simple and clean. The resort looks beautiful. They have. Ice balcony on the riverside and nice pool.
Dennis is charming and very helpful and guided us and answered every question we had. All with a smile and sympathy.
Price is reasonable.
Just notice that the resort is located approx 3-4 Km from the city. We had a car, so it wasn't a problem.

We were a group of family and friends of 11 ranging from age 14 upwards. We had the absolute best time here . Accommodation is bungalow type with excellent air con .
The absolute pluses for this hotel was hospitality, never would we imagine that a hotel could feel so much like home. Anything And everything was provided for And more by the famous Dennis and nee . Hi,
We went for a few days (4 nights) with 2 adults and 3 children in july and we were the only guests at that time.
Everything was ok, room was great, the info that Dennis gave was great, food and breakfast was ok, internet was also very good, cleaning of the room was good and the conversations we had with the Dennis (the owner) were good also.

The swimming pool was good however, if I compare the water with other swimming pools, it hurt to my eyes and mostly that is because bad water quality so Dennis, maybe you can check that ??

So everything was fine and I would give Xanadu the best quotation if the following didn't happen...

On our last day Dennis told us that he would take us to a local market but he never showed up, he was gone and the resort/restaurant/bar was closed.
So no problem, we went to Kanchanaburi to have dinner in zad zad restaurant (very good by the way).
The next day we went to the restaurant in Xanadu for our breakfast but again, it was closed.
We called to Dennis and with a sleepy voice he told me he would be there in 20 minutes.
Nobody came in 20 minutes and the maid/servant who was there "TRIED" to make our breakfast but that didn't worked so my wife helped her and we had a little breakfast (certainly not what we paid for).
I paid everything the day before when Dennis was still there so I couldn't complain a lot since I already paid everything and I am pretty sure that if I wouldn't have paid, Dennis would be there but we had a very good feeling about Dennis so we didn't think he would leave us on our own in the resort.

The evening that Dennis wasn't there, the thai people who live in the resort (family of Dennis I think) had a party so there was a lot of loud music also which was annoying.

I really enjoyed our first days in Xanadu but because of that crappy service the last day (evening and breakfast), Xanadu doesn't deserve a good quotation from me.

Dennis sent me a reply to an e-mail that we could have a free stay when we come back but we live in Belgium, Kanchanaburi is not next to my door and there are other trips I want to make also.
