“You won't find better value for money in Patong.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2013

Having just spent almost a month at the Swiss Palm Beach, my partner and I would recommend this resort to any one who is seeking a quiet central location, very easy access to the beach,a tranquil environment and a management and staff who would do anything to make your time with them a pleasant experience .Philippe and his staff are a no fuss outfit who presence is there should a problem arise, this is not 5 star but the configuration of different units independently owed and managed by Philippe is clean and is nestled in a beautiful garden setting with a great swimming pool.Secure, value for money, smiling faces, restaurant ,wonderful helpful staff,it's all at the Swiss Palm Beach, Kaye and I will be back for our third stay in October.

It is hard to know where to start with this wonderful little hotel but I will give it my best shot.
LOCATION
It is located at the northern end of Patong just on the south side of Gracelands. It faces north/south so you don’t get the problem of the blazing sun in the mornings and the afternoons it you are using the veranda. You do get a little sun but it does not last for long.
Just outside the hotel is a pancake lady (yum) and nearby is a small supermarket with limited stock but a little further to the rear ring road are larger mini marts and it is only a 10-15 minute walk to Jungclyon and Bangla RD
Hotel
It is a smallish hotel shaped in a V with one storey, two storey and three storey rooms down each side of the V shape. All open up onto lovely lush tropical gardens. Reception, restaurant and small pool with pool bar are at the front of the property.
There are 8 one and two bedroom units at ground floor level. The two bedroom ground floor units are larger and better appointed than the one bedroom. Other units are double storey with lounge downstairs and bedroom(s) up a very narrow flight of stairs. You can request ground floor units and where you want to be eg next to the pool or away from the pool. When I come back again I will get the two bedroom unit even though we only need one bedroom. There are air conditioners in both the bedrooms in the two bedroom units which, if you left the doors open would cool the lounge and kitchen area (fans only)
We had one of the older ground floor one bedroom apartments that had not been renovated yet however it was very comfortable if not as big and luxuriously appointed as some other units. It consisted of essentially two rooms with an ensuite off the bedroom. There is a small verandah with chairs and table outside. In the unit we were in there was no privacy barrier between us and the next room but many of the other units have such a barrier to give you some privacy. There is a fan on the wall of the veranda which not only cools but helps chase the mosquitoes away.
You then enter the first room which essentially is a lounge room with small kitchenette (sink and two burner cook top). Kitchen is equipped with cooking utensils, jug etc (no toaster so if you want to make some toast either bring a toaster or buy a cheaper here)
The room has a three seater lounge with coffee table, a small dining table with four chairs, cabinet with TV and a nice big frig ( not more bending down on hands and knees to get a beer out of the frig). A limited selection of books are provided if you run out of reading material.
The bedroom is large with a king size bed – pretty firm with comfortable pillows, large wardrobe and safe. There is small dressing table with mirror and drawers.
The bathroom is modern with shower, handbasin and reasonable shelf space together with a toilet.
The bedroom is airconditioned and there is a fan in the living room however the airconditioner in the bedroom adequately cools the front living room. ( I am not sure how effective this would be for the units with air conditioned bedrooms upstairs)
The hotel does not provide toiletries in the bathroom nor does it supply tea/coffee etc but bare in mind it is not a luxury hotel. If you want luxury eg large swimming pools gymnasiums saunas etc then this place is not for you.
There were a number of other rooms that we could see through the window that were larger than ours and more luxuriously furnished however ours was more than adequate for our needs particularly at the price
There is a relatively inexpensive restaurant on site with breakfast starting at 8am—if you are an early riser there are other breakfast places open earlier.
The beach is only a short walk down a laneway on the south side of Gracelands.
The hotel hires motor cycles for 200B per day and DO NOT HAVE TO PART WITH YOUR PASSPORT.
This property would not suit families with boisterous children as the swimming pool is only small nor would it be suitable for party animals.
I would suggest that you try and get rooms on the northern end of the property (towards Gracelands) as the ones around the pool and next to the restaurant could be a little noisy if you wanted peace and quiet.
We had a look at the adjacent Eden Bungalows and Bougainvilla apartments and believe the SPB is far superior
What you need to bring:
Bottle opener, can opener, cork screw.
Decent size bottle of sunscreen as you can buy it here but only in fairly small tubes.
David Grays’ insect fogger for outside on the veranda as the mosquitoes are fairly friendly ( When recently in Koe Samui we were able to buy a lot cheaper than Australia but could not find it in the mini marts of Big C.) Also a decent insect repellent to spray on you.
Small bottle of methylated spirits to use with a cotton bud to put in your ears morning and night and this will dry up any moisture after swimming, showering, sweating etc and prevent ear infections.
You can buy coffee milk tea and a huge selection of continental goods at the Big C supermarket at the back of Jungclyon (sorry about the spelling).
Power adaptor as hotel does not have any—you can buy them in Phuket however I needed to plug a Bali adaptor into the one I bought here to enable use of an Aussie plug.
Tea towel, dishwashing cloth would also be handy.
Be aware that this property is extremely popular and you should book well in advance particularly in peak times or the start of the low season (low prices) we tried to book a single bedroom deluxe unit 8 months ago but could only get the one mentioned above but now I glad as it is exactly what we wanted.
If you have difficulty climbing stairs be aware that a lot of the units have stairs to the first floor lounge area and then more stairs to the upper bedroom area.
All in all a great place particularly for those that like to have more than just a bedroom to spend your time in.

Room Tip: If you do not like stairs choose downstairs room. You can request whether you want to be near the po...

We are a Sri Lankan couple and spent our honeymoon at Swiss Palm Beach in October 2012. We had not made a prior reservation and walked in to see if they have rooms. The staff (especially Philippe) was very welcoming and showed us around the property and we stayed in a cozy little two bedroom apartment. Although being adventurous, safety was our primary concern and the place was very safe and there were many families staying here.
Location: Excellent central location, walking distance to the beach and Bangla road yet it’s far enough from the noise and the party scene to get a good night's rest. The room was cleaned every morning. The staff was always friendly even when we walked in late in the night after partying :)
We were at the beach most of the time hence did not have food from the hotel. There are many places to get food around the area and we always tried a new place for each meal. (There is a lady selling Crepes right opposite the entrance...Yummy!)
They also arrange tours and airport drops at a very reasonable price (much cheaper than getting a cab from the airport). All in all it was a great place to stay and we had a lovely relaxing honeymoon… We will surely return!

Close to everything (shopping, mini mart, chemist, Legends bar, restaurant, massage). A nice walk along the beach to shopping centres and restaurants. Very affordable and quiet. Hope to go back and stay again.

Room Tip: Two bedroom unit near pool (room 21) was good. Stairs could be a problem with small children but ot...

Our young family of five (10, 8 and 6) recently stayed at the Swiss palm beach hotel. We enjoyed the pool and the location was good i.e. close to the beach. To describe the hotel I would say it was uncomplicated and good value. If you wanted night life it is not far away from the main drag (Bangla road), however we found that this hotel had mainly families which suited us very well. The resturant was very good and the staff friendly and accomodating. Our room was cleaned diligently every morning.
There was some maintenance going on in the nex appartment during our stay which involved a hammer drill. We cleared out and went to the beach so it was no problem.

We would definitly stay at this hotel when we return to Phuket and would recommend it to families of 4-5 who are looking for an extended stay at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Rooms are all similar. If you could get a room close to the pool it would be better.

Whilst it wasn't five star accommodation, it certainly fulfilled our needs for our stay. It did lack some variety for the kids but the pool did the trick most of the time!!

The staff were superb and I would have no hesitation in going back there or recommending this place as an alternative to the five star treatment as it is practically fully self contained!!

My husband, daughter and myself have stayed at Swiss Palm Beach many times over the last five years. Last year we had noticed a general lack of maintenance, but with a change of part-management that has been addressed, and very well done so.

The restaurant, reception and grounds have been re-vamped, and the pool is maintained daily (previously not the case). The staff are long-term, and when on a family vacation we find that a good thing. They have come to know our little one and look out for her - sometimes you need eyes in the back of your head...lol! The baby-sitting services are wonderful and we feel nothing but confident.

The restaurant food continues to be wholesome and good value...yes you can get cheaper on the streets, but not that much cheaper, and it is convenient to be able to get breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks whilst sitting around the pool.

The resident driver (Mr. Somchai) is kind, courteous and knowledgeable. Rather than haggle with drivers on the street we would book him for the day to take us where ever we wanted to go on the island, knowing we weren't going to be ripped off, we would be safe, and be taken where we wanted to go....not dropped off at a travel agent for a hard sell halfway through the day!

The apartments are of varying quality (each individually owned), so if you can afford it, spend the tiny bit extra and go for a Deluxe Apartment, which has two toilets, a really well appointed kitchen and dining area, and televisions in the loungroom and main bedroom. With the change of management the kitchen in the Deluxe now includes a toaster and a working cooktop. A three-quarter size fridge is in the kitchen, allowing you to cool down a fair few drinks and keep some snacks and food cold. Some of the standard and superior apartments do need some renovating.

The apartments are exceedingly well located at the northern end of Patong, but still only a 20 minute walk to Bangla Road, or a 150 THB tuk tuk ride. There are a number of tuk tuk vendors outside the main entrance, along with a pharmacy, general store, money changer, hairdresser, ATM, coffee shop, and of course a TAILOR! Drop your laundry at the Eden Laundry situated in the lane outside the complex...it is the same price per kg as all the others, but is a better quality clean.

Swiss Palm is small complex which allows it to offer many things the bigger resorts can't i.e. you can walk from you apartment to the pool in your togs, you can consume your own shop bought drinks around the pool (you only need walk a few metres to your room for another cold one), you can self-cater if you like, close to the beach and is a quiet haven in what can be a very hectic place....but still only a very short distance to the noise and rabble of Asia. It is a great family and friends orientated holiday complex. It is not glitzy, but it is a great value for money holiday apartment resort.

To the new management...thankyou for the improvements and those to come.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor apartment as the ground floor apartments can be a bit dark.
