January was our second visit to Melas Lara and it did not disappoint. We first went 2 years ago for our honeymoon and had a really good stay.

The food is good, you get a varied choice even for the picky eaters.

The entertainment is not great at this time of year, but what they do put on does entertain on a basic level.

The staff are really friendly and attentive and will do anything to help.

We will be back, great break away...

Prior to traveling to the Melas Lara I read the reviews of others and found mixed reviews.
I have to say that we; Myself, Wife and 2 Boys (6 & 4) had a great time and would seriously consider returning in the future.
The food was excellent and as somebody else mentioned, the deserts and pastries were a delight.
On previous holidays the so called family room was no bigger than a small office. The family rooms in this hotel are huge. In the Thomas Cook Brochure they are described as "Duplex Room". For those families wishing to visit, this means that the Children get their own room and adults get the main room with either a king size or twin beds.
The over standard and size of the room we stayed in was excellent. The room and facilities were thoroughly cleaned every day.
We stayed on the 10 floor and end of the corridor. Great views to the sea and surrounding areas
We never stay around the pool so I can't comment on the bar and food served. Yes the Pool was very cold but once we plucked up the courage to jump in it was not an issue. The water slides were great fun and very safe having their own landing area and pool.
Most of our daytime was spent on the beach drinking cocktails and beer. Nice beach, sun beds available and very relaxing.
The food served at the Beach Bar was simple but very nice, the freshly cooked pizzas were lovely.
A number of people have made reference to the staff being rude or ignorant. I have to be honest and say that the staff were great and everything we or our children asked for was provided. Imagine this for a moment as well. We spoke to the German and Russian holiday makers who were very nice and polite. Fancy that, being civil and polite means people will talk to you. We actually found the british tourist the worst and most ignorant, made me very upset and angry to see them behave this way. Some were very rude to my children who were trying to enjoy their holiday, who were told in no uncertain terms to not speak to my children in that way.
The Turkish Bath and Massage centre was brilliant and very relaxing. I visited twice and bartered for everything. Great deals
The rep Barbara is very lively and friendly. Any problems just talk to her and She can help.
Hope this was informative and will help you make up your mind. Great place, Great Staff

Room Tip: Stay away from the Lifts and if possible ask for the Upper floors

Hotel was immaculate, food fantastic, couldn't fault the food or the staff they couldn't do enough for us, I was there with my mum, we used the sauna and indoor pool as the outdoor one was cold but to be honest he cocktails put some heat in you lol, had a Turkish, massage and facial when I was there this is a must it was fab. The entertainment left a lot to be desired especially as we felt we couldn't go out the hotel anywhere at night as there were no bars in the surrounding area and there were no street lights to and from the hotel to the main road, twice we eded up in bed early as the entertainment wasn't good especially the older gentleman with the green scarf who sang twice in the one week (for a 5 star I was VERY disappointed) we went to the disco a couple of times it's lovely in there really nice surroundings for a wee boogie. The beach bars food was great and so was the pool bar in fact the food over all was first class chicken pizzas chips beef fish salad, only thing me being a Brit and like my breakfast was no bacon but obviously it's a religious thing so if your wanting your fry up in the morning the only thing your gonna get is spicy sausage and a fried egg lol even if there had been some beans but there wasn't all in all my trip to the melas Lara was a nice sunbathing relaxing eating till I could burst holiday. Yeah and there are tonnes of Germans there. But me and my mum had a laugh our 2 selves. Don't be fooled by the pics how it looks a dark dull hotel compared to the big yellow one next door we were talking to another guest and they said the food wasn't as good in there as it was our hotel. Oh another thing all the hotels are themed there's Concorde titanic u can go view all these hotels at 4 pm but all in all the melas was good just depends what your looking for .... Would I go back ? Maybe in a year or 2

We stayed from 25th March - 1st April. We booked it rather randomly as a last minute deal as we just wanted to get away for some sun!

1st Impressions and Room - very good, arrived at 2am and bell boy took our bags for us, very smooth quick check in. Lobby amazing and rooms as good as we had hoped! Being in twin beds that had been pushed together meant occasional rolling in the gap haha! Great balcony and mini bar and the jacuzzi bath was a real luxury.

Food and Drink - Husband very excited as had never been all inclusive before! SO much choice. Yes, some of it is very German/European orientated but this did not bother us. Drinks good, strong cocktails and good selection. Ate my weight in pastry and cakes. Beach bar has some good food too.

Staff - contrary to some negative reviews we have read on here, we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Found it impressive that they could switch between 4-5 different languages! Occasional language barriers but to be expected. One negative we experienced was a rude waitress who told us to move and that the restaurant was closed when it wasn't! This was promptly resolved. Housekeeping was immaculate (and being a former housekeeper myself I am quite picky!)

Entertainment and Facilities - turkish night was fab and the live music was good in the bar. Great spa and turkish bath (barter for the massage deal, we got a good price!) outdoor pool chilly but got in twice when waterslides were on! Indoor pool ok but busy due to the outdoor temp.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday. Location is a bit out as others have said, but we knew this at time of booking and compared to conversations we had with unhappy guests staying in other hotels furthur down the strip which i shall not name, it sounds like we struck lucky with our choice :) hoping to book here again next year for may/june time when it's a bit warmer

arrived back from this hotel on friday evening. spent a week there through thomas cook. rep barbara was great. hotel areas and rooms are clean, rooms comfy, bathroom had jacuzzi. tv only had bbc world news for us brits though!. food excellent there wasn't one meal where there wasn't anything we didn't fancy. different breads are gorgeous. salad bar excellent. plenty of areas to sit around. indoor pool great as it was too cold to swim in outdoor pool. music playing in background in hotel was easy listening british artists, entertainment was geared for all nationalities, and considering it was march, and hotel was quiet entertainment was good. if staying here would recommend a high floor, particularly as summer months approach could imagine it would be busy and noisy. the first floor rooms are on a level with the lobby bar which gets busy.beach towels and robes provided in rooms and they do charge for a change of towel if you want one. the hotel is one on a strip of hotels with themes. there is a lot of building going on and so lots of building rubble dotted around. plenty of shopping malls and centres in walking distance. majority of staff weren't overly pleasant but were efficient and kept clearing the tables in the bar and restaurant so you never had dirty dishes around. Downside was they presumed you were German and spoke in German. Once they realised we were Brits we were basically ignored from a point of view there wasn't any pleasant chatter with them. the staff did have a lot of time for the Germans we noticed. this didn't bother us we didn't want to be their "friend"!. but we were served promptly and courteously so we were happy with that. Overall we couldn't fault this hotel and would definitely return.

Room Tip: high floor with sea view as hotel is close to one next door and tends to overshadow.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in mid september 2011. On arrival we were both a little underwhelmed as the other hotels that we had driven passed and dropped people off at looked massive and really exciting, however this changed as soon as we walked in to the beautiful reception area and were really impressed with the marble interior.

The room: The room is really nice, clean spacious, pleanty of wardrobe space, bathroom was also lovely, power shower and jet spa bath which is nice for cooling down sun burn after a day by the pool or on the beach. The room was cleaned daily and the towels were changed everyother day (if you leave them on the floor they will change them). The TV only had BBC news channel and CNN.

The food: AMAZING!! massive choice and really tasty i think i must have put on half a stone while i was there. the pool bar does burgers and chicken nuggets, chips etc throughout the day, but we usually walked down to the beach bar beacuse the pizzas were to die for. there was also waffles put on the bar at 4 which were yummy and also there is an ice cream stand which is avalible all day. The dining room at night had loads of choice and we always found something we liked, better to get down early as it gets really busy.

Entertainment: the entertainment in the day was good they did aqua gym and played a few pool games and that there is also a few slides which look rubish but are actually quite good. at night however the entertainment was crap and slightly cringey i think people were laughing at them more than with them, but bless them they tried hard and were really nice people compared to the rest of the staff but will come to that later.

Bars: the lobby bar was nice and peacefull we usually went up there after tea for a few, the cocktails were nice but strong :) the pool bar is were all the evening entertainment went on, there is a nightclub that we went to once which was alright really quite but we had a laugh in there.

Staff: RUDE, IGNORANT. the staff are this hotels downfall i would say that out of all the staff i had dealings with only 3 of them had any manners excluding the entertainment staff they were really lovely. It seemed like every time we went in the dining room and even the beach bar we were ignored they blatently saw us come in and sit down but they just completely ignored us and never asked us what we wanted to drink or welcomed us or anything we always had to ask some one passing for some attention. As for the reception staff serious attitude problem!!

Location: ideal for the beach, there is a small bazzar shopping centre about five mins walk from the hotel but as for bars and restaurants i didnt even see one which dissapointed us as we fancied a drink somewere else other that the hotel but to be honest we didnt make an effort to try and get a taxi or anything so maybe there was a few further down the road.

while we were there there was quite a few english people there but still there were loads of german people and russian people.

Little tip try the cappachinos at the pool bar they are a great kick start to the day
