We stayed here three nights in a third floor double. The room was quite comfortable although wifi was a little spotty. The building has lots of character including and interior atrium which is a great place for tea or after dinner drinks. Breakfasts are very good with a large selection. It appears there is a roof top pool or hot tub in the summer but it was not open yet in April. One word of caution ...there is no elevator so keep that in mind for room selection. We enjoyed our top floor room but it was a work out. They do help with luggage though. I liked this place.

The Hotel Grand Samarkand and the Hotel Grand Samarkand Superior are two sister hotels which face each other across the road in the Russian area. We stayed in the Hotel Grand and were pleasantly surprised. Rooms are a good size with twin beds, TV, settee, two armchairs, desk with chair, plenty of drawer space and a slim size wardrobe. Clean carpets and bedding. Smallish bathroom with shower over the rather high sided bath. Complementary bottled water but no coffee / tea making facilities. Settees and armchairs in the reception area. Small garden in the open air courtyard where it was pleasant to sit and have glass of wine and beer served by a very nice waiter. Very good breakfast.....eggs, meats, cheeses, salad items, variety of savoury and sweet pastries, fresh fruit incuding strawberries, cherries, kiwi fruit, apricots, bananas also selection of dried fruits and home made turkish delight type sweets. Selection of breads and cakes. Efficient, friendly and helpful staff in the breakfast room. There are no tables for two all the tables seat up to six people. However as we always ate as soon as the restaurant opened we always had a table to ourselves. Hotel used by tourist companies so restaurant could get busy for breakfast.
I popped over to look at the "Superior" version opposite which had a larger reception area with chandeliers but the courtyard was undercover and not as pleasant as where we stayed. The restaurant / breakfast room looked smaller than our one. Free Wifi but rather slow which seems to be the norm in most hotels. This did not in fact matter to us.
The draw back is that the hotel is not in the centre of the town although once you have done all the historic sites its rather nice to be in a quiet location.
A nice hotel.

Samarkand is a good walking city and the Hotel Grand Samarkand is well located for this.
it doesn't live up to the 'grand' description, being small and intimate.
Make sure you get a room with an external window.
I paid a little extra and got a front room and it was well worth it.
The lack of a lift would be an issue for many people.
However, the staff are cheery and helpful, the position is quiet and Samarkand is definitely worth visiting. A lovely Russian style city overlaid on the original ancient one.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the front with a window facing the street.

Grand Samarkand is in the new part kf the city, but still with the good position. Staff is hospitable. Breakfasts are decent with wide selection. Even coffee, espresso, which is not so common in Uzbekistan is good. The only drawback is that majority of rooms are situated towards covered inner courtyard so that you cannot get fresh air.

Perfectly acceptable, clean and comfortable hotel with decent rooms. Wifi in rooms more reliable than in other parts of Uzbekistan. Reasonable buffet breakfasts, friendly staff. Located in a quiet side street - a 30-45 minute walk from the Register, Bibi Khanym Mosque etc
