When we arrived without prior booking on a Sunday afternoon at their gate nobody answered the bell. So we tried the mobile phone number indicated at the gate and asked for a room. Only 5 minutes later Gayle came to meet us. As they had not expected guests the room was not yet ready but she cleaned it for us in record time.
And what a surprise! You don't just get a room but a house (therefore lodge). The lodge we had was very large and modern with beautiful wooden furniture, a large sitting room, a table for 4, a large equipped kitchen, a nice bathroom and a comfy bedroom with large mosquito net. The lodge was nice and cool even without aircon although it was very hot outside.
The garden and pool were great to relax, or you could stay at your private patio.
She also gave us tips where to find a good restaurant on a Sunday night. As we loved the place so much we decided to stay a make use of the braai provided.
The lodge offers good value for money and was among the two best accommodations on our 4-weeks trip in Zimbabwe.
If you want to go to Matopos I recommend to stay at Granite Lodges instead of Malema Restcamp which is very old and the mosquitos eat you up at night. From Bulawayo you can easily explore Matopos as a day trip.
