This place has tiny rooms and shared bathrooms. Our bedroom was right next to the toilet, so when early risers used it, we were woken up. On the plus side, it was ryokan style and did have a small, shared, gender-separate hot bath tub on site.

While the towels and robes were replaced daily with fresh ones, the tea cups in our tea box were put back in, dirty, and our tea bags were not replenished.

The free bikes had flat tires and the headlights didn't work. But it was nice to have them to use.

The owner has a spare room where you can leave your luggage after you check out of your room, and before you leave to go to the train station. He was not very helpful giving us directions to the place. It's across the river, turn left at the riverbank and pass three more bridges before you see the tiny blue illuminated sign. The English name on the sign says "Spa Inn Iguchi," not Oyado Iguchi.

It's a 20-30 minute walk from the station, beside the river and close to the festival floats hall. There is a river bridge almost outside the door so virtually everywhere in town is easy to get to. The free bike loan is great, it means you can cycle anywhere and cover all the sights in town. They may be single gear and you'll probably have to push them up a hill( there are plenty to choose from) but freewheeling down is great fun.
The owner is very nice, he cooks breakfast and evening meals on request, the hot spring baths( separate male and female) are hot and perfect for relaxing in after a long day. The rooms are large, clean and tidy, as is usual it's a futon to sleep on and a rice filled pillow.
Hot water is supplied in a flask to make green tea, as is cold water. At the back of the house is a pond full of koi, it really is a relaxing place to stay.

Spent 20 hrs. in Takayama. Couldn't get a pickup. Long distance from the station.(30 mins walk.) Owner very nice. Lent us their bikes. So we saw a lot as it was the festival. Next morning, also had their breakfast. Good + substancial. Used bikes again. Covered a lot of ground.
