We stayed here for two nights over a long weekend and it was great. Originally we were wondering if we should try two different hotels, but we decided that we would rather not move and stay in one location. The hotel prices were cheaper than downtown because the hotel is about a 10 - 15 minute drive up the mountain from the train station. Since we drove, it was not a problem, however they have a free shuttle bus into town that stops at the station. I am not sure of the frequency, but the shuttle seemed to run every hour. The room was clean, great view of the mountains and city below. They have a huge lobby for check in and a large souvenir shop that closes at 9:00 PM. The buffet breakfast was very nice. For 2,000 yen you have a large choice of Japanese or Western style food. I only had the Western style food which included cereals, milk, OJ, grapefruit juice, coffee, tea, yogurt, fresh oranges, pineapple, grapefruit and canned fruit compote, toast, strudel, muffins, pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, sunny side up, and more. There are two restaurants, one with a view of the city that fills up quickly and gets rather hot so the curtains are drawn. The other room has no view and tables that are separated versus the open restaurant style of with the city view. The hot springs are separated in to men's and women's on different floors and they alternate every day, so one day you can be on the 7th floor and the next on the 5th floor. Almost the same style baths. They have one large one inside with a sauna and steam room. Then outside they have six more baths, including two personal tubs and one infinity pool style hot spring that gives you a great sunrise or sunset view of the city. They have messages available, a small cafeteria in the hot spring area, and lounge chairs outside. It is a long walk to the elevators and that is maybe the only drawback. Friendly staff and a clean hotel. The WiFi is free, but not very fast.

Room Tip: I think all rooms overlook the parking lot which then overlooks the city and surrounding mountains.

When visiting this hotel you can take free shuttle bus from takayama stasiun to the hotel resort. So not a problem for booking this hotel. This small town hard to get taxi. The town it self very quite after 7 pm. You can have onsen bath in this hotel for ¥1100 for 3 sessions

This is an excellent hotel, but there are a few drawbacks, such as no room service, the hotel controls the temperature of heating or air conditioning (no individual room controls), and LOTS of tour buses. The breakfast buffet items are a little watered down, no doubt to control costs for the multitudes of tour buses. But other than that, it is a very good property, beautifully appointed. Our room was quite large, had a great view of the town and valley, and the most comfortable beds of any hotel on our trip. The public onsen is superb!

We Stayed here for 2 nights. Hotel is located ~8 minutes drive from city centre or using the hotel free shuttle to the rail station (rubs frequently).
Hotel is old, but grand and has AMA, ING onsen (separate for men/women) with a view.
Breakfast is of good standard and nice spread, both for Asians and Westerners.
Wi-Fi free, computer in the lobby is for a fee!
Non smoking rooms available. 3 restaurants to choose from.
No laundromat available here. Staff were welcoming and helpful, but with limited English.Recommended!

I was on a group tour and stayed at this hotel for a night.

The hotel is located at the top of the hill, so it would be inconvenient to go to the town though there is an hourly shuttle bus.

This hotel seems to caters mostly to domestic tourists so it may be hard to communicate if you only speak English.

The rooms were quite quaint and done in a European manner. I had a room with lovely mountain views. Wifi in rooms were rather slow and speeds are faster nearer to the window or at the lobby. Toiletries were comprehensive.

The hot springs were quite nicely done up with outdoor views of the mountains. Best to go in the day to enjoy the view.

Buffet spread for breakfast was quite comprehensive with both international and Japanese food available.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with mountain views
