We weren't sure about staying in Kanazawa due to an already packed schedule but were so glad we did, even if it was for just one day. The park and castle are worth a visit, as are some of the historic houses. Helping round off a great visit was staying at this Ryokan. It is a modern building that doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is terrific. It is done in a modern minimalistic style and our room was very nice, with a great view of their garden. The decor is very nice and I was so busy taking photos that the lady showing me around had to point out that the lovely Japanese style plants/decor I was taking was actually the entrance to the toilet!! Staff were very friendly and the dinner we had was superb with great service. We had our dinner in a separate private room that looked out to a lit Japanese garden - very nice. The location is not that convenient and you need to catch a taxi To get around but it is only a 10 to 15 minute ride to most locations including the train station. Overall would highly recommend staying here if you are in Kanazawa.

Stayed here for 2 night during our time in Kanzawa. We arrived early and dropped our bags off (Small communication issue but we were early). When we returned at the 4 o'clock they had an English speaking host. They got us checked in and determined times for dinner and breakfast. This is a TRUE ryokan. No western elements here at all. The room was beautiful but minimalistic in line with the true Japanese aesthetic. We then used the hot bath and dressed in the provided Yukata. We have dinned all over the world but the dinner was a real experience. It was 2-3 hours and a real Kaiseki experience. The ingredients were very high end including abalone, crab, globe fish and beautiful presentation. They have a nice sake list to compliment the meal. While we were downstairs at dinner they transformed our room and layer down the futons. We slept surprisingly well. The breakfast presentation was equally beautiful. It was very traditional as well. So be prepared to be adventurous!! The experience was pure Japan and should definitely be tried. Our kids are really adventurous (age 11 and 13) but if not they might not find the traditional Japanese food appealing.
