A very nice traditional hotel! We have stayed here with 26 people and had a very nice dinner! Everything is very clean and good, really friendly staff who make your stay pleasant, they show you the rooms and explain the rules of the onsen! The onsen are very relaxing, and are open in the morning and in the afternoon/evening!

A very nice ryokan

My husband and I stayed here in October 2016. We were hiking Kumamoto and decided to stay the night before heading back to Tokyo. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were OK, clean but nothing fancy. The price was reasonable. Onsen area was one outdoor and one indoor bath. Rooms had a 1/2 bath ensuite but you had to shower at the onsen area. No problem for us as we both wanted a long soak after the hike. We had a drink (sake) at the bar and slept well. Overall, it's a nice hotel a little off the beaten path but was a good experience.

The main attraction of a onsen ryokan is the onsen. Here the indoor onsen is fully furnished and the water is hot. I stayed in a western room with twin bed. Its size is more than double of the standard business hotel room in downtown. The room has no attached bathroom, only a toilet, and one have to use the shower at the onsen.
I did not eat at the hotel. It is about 15 minutes drive from Matsumoto JR station. It will not be very easy to reach if you are not travelling on a car.

The ryokan is 10-minute drive away from Matsumoto city centre, so I guess it is better to have a rental car if you decide to reside here. Parking space is indoor but quite narrow if you are the last few car to enter, good driver required!

Staff are very helpful and speak decent English, someone ran us through the hotel facilities as well as the rooms we booked. We booked 2 western rooms here and they are large and clean. Beds were comfortable. We did not dine here. There are both indoor and outdoor onsen, and they are hot! Front desk and main gate close at midnight. We can access wifi from our rooms without any problem.

It's the sort of place that makes your heart sing. A rambling old building, a hilarious mish mash of furniture and bric a brac, a great bath and delightful staff. There is nothing stylish about this place but it oozes charm. The price for a room and two extravagant meals was very reasonable. On the night I went out was filled with middle ages mothers and the grandparents having a night away. Cute. The staff told me that the number of foreign guests has increased dramatically. And so it should.
