This little reconstructed gate house and entrance complex is well worth a visit between Kofu station and the little local crafts shopping centre beyond. It is one of the entrances to the main Kofu castle but it has been detached from the main site by virtue of the decision to build a railway line through the castle between the two.
It consists of a sympathetically reconstructed gatehouse with displays inside covering the archaeological investigation and consequent reconstruction, and exhibiting artefacts recovered from the site. The impressive ramparts illustrate the defensive features of the original entrance. Given its convenient location and limited scale it is a very rewarding investment in time!
