Shin Yokohama Prince Hotel

Reviewed 27 November 2017 via mobile

Very convenient hotel location just 2 min from shinkansen stop. Can plan trip to Hamatsu for day trip. Also can go to Tokyo center easily. Size better than average Tokyo hotels at 4 star level. Good Japanese restaurant on the top with city view.

Located next to the train station makes it easy to get to, plenty of restaurants nearby giving a good choice of eating and drinking options. The rooms are quite small and fairly basic, clean but have a slightly worn feel to them. Wifi works well throughout the hotel. Breakfast has ample choice, probably the best part of the hotel stay. I only spent minimal time in the hotel, mainly out on business so it was acceptable to me for the price paid, if I were travelling for leisure then I would probably choose not to stay at this hotel.

This is a city center hotel close to many amenities, including the train system, The Ramen Museum, and Nissan stadium. It is in the middle of a mall so there is shopping, grocery and many bars and restaurants. For the area, this is a great location, especially if you do not speak Japanese. It is easy to navigate, you won't starve and the staff is very helpful.
The rooms are extremely small compared to American hotel rooms, but compared to Europe - similar. Housekeeping is very respectful. The rooms were clean. The views were great.
Everything in the immediate city is walk-able, and everything is navigable by train. I got around quite easily and I (only) speak about 5 words of Japanese.
The food court in the adjacent plaza is amazing - there are so many choices. It looks like fast food from the outside, but inside there are numerous different levels of restaurants, bars. It is comprehensive. Go in - check it out. Also, there were a few restaurants within the hotel itself. My husband and I preferred the fresh sushi from the lower level grocery, but the Italian restaurant was delicious and all the restaurants had something good to offer.
We experienced HH at the rooftop bar and the lobby bar, both had decent cocktails, but the view from the top was lovely.
Even though No one pandered to the English language, politeness and respect went a long way. Intro in Japanese language and people will respond very receptively.
This was a good choice for a business trip.
Def. get the breakfast - it is an expansive buffet, with numerous stations with traditional Japanese fare as well as European and American choices.

I am old enough and agree to pay for something special: this includes expensive bars at hotel rooftops in mega cities. In fact I try not to miss them.
BUT this one in Prince Hotel Yokohama made big adverts in and around all elevators: all you can read: “42 (floor) Happy hour 17-20:00 ALL 700 (Yen)”.
So I invited my whole group: the only result was that not a single drink was 700 all about twice at much… No hint that – what you can’t read without google translate only certain Cocktails, draft beers and house wine.
What is completely unacceptable that the give you the one and only menu, no hint or even a special happy hour menu. Also no thin that they will add a cover charge. AND ordering a draft beer they don’t even ask you if you want the one (whatever one that was) that would have been on the happy our list: they simply bring you the expensive other.
This is not what I am used in Japan – warnings for everything you can imagine. SO THIS is my WARNIGN for tourist trap 42fnd flor Bar at Price Hotel Yokohama "Top of Yokohama"

Room Tip: insist in none smoking room

Can not recommend this place anymore. D and worn and utterly crapped rooms - classic old school Japanese business hotel that’s is well past its glory days. Rooms seriously small, prefab bathrooms remaking of old stale water and an internet slower than most. Breakfast not much to rave about and western food items run out easy, with the marvelous explanation from staff that ‘people from west eat too much’. Got a love that approach. And the big big minus in my book is the complete lack of a gym.
I’d say Associate in the station building is a way better option than Prince hotel.

Very good impression when you walk into this hotel. It all looks new and tidy. Reception a nice welcome and no mugging around, quick service and up to your room.
Room itself, non smoking twin bed, is small but it is sufficient with good beds and shower/bath and the Japanese toilet you get used to furthermore the room is kept very clean and tidy. You have options to have everything cleaned every day or whenever you indicate and you could earn 500 Yen per day if you choos the lesser "cleaning" option.
On the top floor (42) some very nice restaurants with magnificent views on the day (and night). Shin Yokohama station is only 5 mins walk away where you can jump on the Shinkansen/bullet train or the subway to where ever you like and of course the subway will get you everywhere with good connections. I used the Passmo card to travel around, easy to use and you can even pay with the pass in shops if you like.
Big shopping centre attached to the hotel for those who want to browse shops and good eateries also. Certainly a hotel to come back to!

Easy reservation via internet that combined good prices. Perfect situation to be connected to Haneda airport (Bus limousine) and other destinations in Yokohama (Shin Yokohama station).
Staff always ready to help you.
Breakfast with many options (one remark about expresso which is a long coffee).
Room small but enough spacy for one person. .

Room Tip: Internet - with a reservation 3 months before
