“Great City to relax”
Reviewed 14 October 2010

It was a very pleasant moment of the trip in Japan...
After Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima, Kagoshima is a great place to relax and to have some hiking experiences and to meet very welcoming people!
However as foreigners, you must forecast enough cash because there is NO 7-Eleven convinient stores... and post office are not really convinient to find...
Also, try to find an Hotel downtown... The Tokyu Hotel has a great view on the Sakurajima but is far from restaurants... It's a very pleasant and cheap hotel to stay... but far from everything!
Choose Kagoshima as a relax place to be... Hiking in Ebino Koen, Samuraïs houses to visit in Chiran, and much more to do...

“Port of Call Day Trip”
Reviewed 11 April 2010

Kagoshima was a port of call for the cruise ship Legend of the Seas. We didn't take the tours organized by the ship because the costs are like 2-3 times! So, we did our research and ventured to Kagoshima on our own.

From the Marine Port, we boarded a taxi to Castle Park Hotel, also known as Shiroyama Kanko Hotel. Its a 20 minute drive and costs about US$30 one-way. The hotel sits atop the hill and you can see the majestic Sakurajima Volcano near the restaurants.

We tried out their rotenburo and it was simply divine - hot and cold baths and an outdoor bath with the Volcano as your view. What a sight!

Lunch at the hotel was fantastic - Japanese quality is just so good.

Then, we took a free shuttle bus to downtown for some shopping - bought lots of strawberries - try them! And got a taxi back to the port.

Short visit to Kagoshima but my impression of this city is this - quaint and beautiful!
