“Great hostel, almost like a traditional minshuku”
Reviewed 3 November 2010

Arrived at the hostel by tram from the station, we could not find it at first so popped into one of the nearby shops and the assistant was more than happy to guide us in the right direction. Our first reaction was one of pleasant surprise, we thought the hostel looked more like a traditional minshuku. As soon as we entered we were greeted by our smiling host, he was very friendly with very good english. As we were the only guests on this day we were shown to the large tatami room (normally for 4 people) eventhough we paid for the smaller room. There was a large very well equipped kitchen on the ground floor and a large common room on the first floor with a mega size tv. The showers and toilets were very clean. And we were also able to view Kumamoto castle all lit up at night from the the rooftop of the hostel. Our host very kindly drove us to the station the following morning.

Overall it was a very comfortable stay and would have liked to have stayed longer.

I would say here is the cleanest place in dozens of backpackers I've stayed in Western and Eastern countries. Not only new but really well maintained. I guess even 10 yrs later, they will keep here clean and cozy as present.

For travelers from overseas, this hostel will provide good exerience to stay in Japanese style accommodation. Don't be afraid of sleeping in the Futon on Tatami. Futon is moderately soft and Tatami and wooden floor are kept soooo clean here. One negative thing, you may hear other people chatting at entrace or reception from your room on the ground floor as room doors are Shoji, Janese traditional slide door partly made with paper, although even it can be good Japanese experience for you.
For all backpackers, this hostel is enough furnished, having kitchen, washing machine, drying area, shower room with private undressing room, hair dryer and free internet access.

For sure you cannot find any other hostel in Kumamoto close to center of the city, budget and owned by friendly and helpful staff like here! -I'm quite confident since I've lived in Kumamoto for 6 years.

This a new hostel (opened 3 months ago) that has a terrific owner. It is not in any guidebooks as it is too new but that is a great thing. I arrived earlier than expected but was welcomed with a big smile and lots of information about the area. I had booked a dorm but because it was rather quite I was upgarded to a single. One note however, it is Japanese style accomodation ie futon. There is all the usual: kitchen, coomon room with massive TV, free internet, wifi...The location is in the town center, walkable distance to everything you need. The owner is very friendly and more than willing to help. He is even giving us a ride to the train station tomorrow as there is a group of people all planning to leave around the same time. Needless to say this place is a gem.
