“Great Business Hotel in the Heart of Naha”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2011

I went to Okinawa for a conference at the Okinawa Convention Center. We originally stayed at a hotel right near the convention center, about 20 mins away from the center of the city. The problem was that, other than the convention center, there was very little to see, eat, or do around there -- so I moved myself to the JAL City Hotel in Naha. Way more convenient to everything and still only a short 2000 yen cab ride away from the Convention Center.

The rooms are small -- Japan small -- just enough space for a full size bed and a small desk -- but that was totally fine. The location is what is key -- it is right in the middle of Kokusai Dori -- the "international street" that is the center of all the action in Naha. Restaurants, shops, the open market, and many bars within 5 minutes walking distance in any direction.

There are two monorail stops within 5 mins walking distance as well that you can take to many sites within Naha City. The breakfast buffet that comes with the room isn't bad either. Had it every morning.

Lastly -- the best part -- is that it was very reasonably priced! We stayed there for $117 a night. Which I thought was a phenomenal price in Japan (particularly since the dollar is so weak)

All in all, I'd strongly recommend this to any business travellers to Okinawa.

Room Tip: I think they're all good. Small and cozy, but comfortable.

This hotel is located on the International Avenue of Naha, the most convenient place for tourists in the area. They also have hotel parking where we could park our rental car there. Somehow I was told that the rate was 1000 yen per day, but we didn't get charged for parking at all.

The room is a bit small, but this is typical across all hotels in Japan.

We had complimentary breakfast during our stay. The breakfast has quite a lot of varieties (western food + japanese food). We also had a complimentary dinner for one night. We thought this would be another buffet dinner as the entire restaurant has a buffet setting. However, it turned out that it was just a set dinner with fixed dishes. The food was okay (western style food), and not too special. After the meal, we thought we should have ventured out to try out other, probably better, restaurants in Naha.

Overall it was enjoyable stay. The hotel was up to standard, clean, new and located in a very convenient location.

Very convenient location, attentive staff. Room a bit small. Free computers with Internet available for use in lobby. Convenient to the main street with lots of 24-hour marts and 24-hour fast food.

I stayed for 3 nights on the Executive floor. Good quality furnishings and nice view from the top floor. However, this hotel lacks amenities like a gym, lounge, or cafe. There is a restaurant that had a lunch buffet but I would not go there again because of the limited choices.

We did not rent a car, so having a location that we could access public transportation easily was important to us. We rode the monorail from the airport then walked 10 minutes from the monorail to the hotel. The Hotel was clean and had the expected amenities. I thought the room was small until I experienced other hotels in Japan. It was for Japan a pretty good size room. This was a sudden trip that my mother-in-law decided to arrange. None of us speaks Japanese and with only 3 months notice of the trip, working, full time, and building a new house none of us had a chance to take a crash course in Japanese. Contrary to some people's reasurrance to us, LOL....not everyone in Japan speaks English and there is not more English in Okinawa. We experienced a language barrier of course. This Hotel must be usually booked by people who speak Japanese because no one at the front desk during the 5 days we were there spoke English, but they were extremely helpful and patient with us anyway. Somehow with pantomine, pointing at maps, the few words of English they knew and the few words of Japanese my husband remembered from after school classes and a few college courses we managed to get good directions and advise from the staff. There was a young bell man that seemed to know more English than the rest. The staff always went the extra mile to help us. The beds were comfortable and clean. There was a wonderful market across from the hotel where we went everyday. We could get to the monorail easily then from there to the Naha Bus Terminal. Beware in Naha, most places do not open before 10:00am. That was a surprise to me. This hotel does not have room service. If you need breakfast before 10:00 am, you will need to buy it before you go to sleep in the evening or go to eat at the McDonald's that opens at 6:00 am. The market and the Department store have a lot of great food that you can put in the little frig in your room.

  • Liked — Good location for our needs.
  • Disliked — No room service or restraunt open in the morning

This hotel was brand new when we arrived in October 2006. It is a perfect blend of Asian tranquility and mod cons. Nothing over the top, but a great retreat in the centre of Naha, excellently positioned on the main street with helpful staff and good service. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
