There is nothing not to love. I frequented ZFL during two years working a stressful job in Malawi and it never failed to restore my mind, body and soul. The best food in Malawi - Petal, Clement and Asinta work miracles in the kitchen - nutritious and delicious fare at every mealtime. I was never hungry and was forever amazed at the dishes they made with local produce. Tea on the khonde, hot showers by candlelight, discovery walks in the garden and forest, comfy cosy beds. ZFL is ideal whether you want solitude or to meet interesting people from around the world - I always met interesting people here plus the hosts - Tom & Petal - are wonderful conversation. Over time, the team at ZFL became friends and it always felt like a glorious home away from home. They note what you eat during your stay and if you return, ensure you get to sample new dishes (unless, like me, you fall in love with the potato rosti and chutneys and then they make it for you as a treat...). This is a perfect corner of the world and especially wonderful when it gets too hot - above the town, it is cooler and malaria free, so no nets!

As if delicious food, a glorious garden and perfect hosts were insufficient, the ZFL team are also working hard to restore the forest. Deforestation is rapid on the Zomba Plateau, placing the water and soil in danger. Whether its planting trees, fighting fires or working with the community to protect trees and water - these guys are working tirelessly to protect the essentials for life.

I cannot recommend ZFL enough. Get booking - you will not regret it. I'll be returning just as soon as I can fly back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are glorious

FANTASTIC. Tom and Petal, the managers, are extremely nice people, and nothing is too much to make you feel at home. Is is a small lodge, 4 rooms, but ,as a matter of fact, it feels really as you are at home. Nice garden to relex, nice varandae to have a drink, and the diner, which you do togehter with other guasts , is of high quality.

Room Tip: The rooms are all situated in the same situation. Not very big, but enough space.

This is a very nice guesthouse with a beautiful garden. They have a cozy livingroom with a fireplace. The food was excellent!! Petal and Tom are very anxious to make your stay
as pleasant as possible. We made a wonderful walk with a guide from the guesthouse through the old wood with a little river and waterfalls. The sleepingrooms ar not so big, but Petal can arrange something with your luggage. Thank you very much for this nice experience in Malawi. Also thank you for very friendly staff!

It was absolutely fantastic. Great rooms, beautiful furnished in African style, and the garden was just so beautiful to walk in. You could walk for miles and enjoy the birds, monkeys, the beautiful vegetation, the waterfall. Everywhere in the garden at the house were nice private places to sit and enjoy the sounds of the birds.
No electricity, but solar lamps to take with you in your room. These lasted all night. In the evenings by the fireplace, Tom and Petal came by to have a nice chat. And to explain how there project against deforestation works. Great job they're doing.
But the most perfect of all was: the food! We have never had such great food, luckily we had booked full board! We have never been to a place before, were everything was so perfect, every detail was right. Thank you Tom and Petal for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Just go there and enjoy yourself. If you ever go to Malawi, don't miss this place.

Stayed here for just one night but could have stayed a couple more as would have liked to explore hiking trails. The home cooked food was outstanding, best I had in Malawi. Really nice setting, great views and worth taking a short stroll to watch the sunset. Be prepared for a slightly bumpy entrance though!
