“Decent clothes, poor wall hangings”

Looks a bit junky when you first walk in but when you make your way further back through the store some of the materials and clothing are very nice and not bad prices either. They have a decent range of larger sizes, too. They had some classes set up for kids to do batik and a work shop in the back.

At the side is a prints section for wall hanging (batik as framed art) but I found the selection average to poor and many of the works were poorly displayed so very difficult to even see what they had. Also, the coverings of many of the pieces were very dirty making it very difficult to see what they even were. A wall hanging was what I was after but with this poor display, I left with nothing.

I brought a friend from California the other day and we just went bonkers with the batik products sold. There's silk fabric of absolutely gorgeous design and quality, and these are real batik. We bought scarves, more cotton fabric, and joined a batik painting session to which we also brought back. The staff are friendly and very helpful (plus it wasn't too busy so they can focus on us all the time).

There's a real batik factory at the back and we were able to see a man blocking batik and take pictures of batik drying, colouring and the many many block designs they have. I was glad I brought my friend here. Our shopaholic-ness was unleashed.

Friendly staff, varied items a huge choice of batik, done to a high standard, with reasonable prices. Good for locals and tourists, allow enough time to see everything.

A good place for natural batik culture and heritage. The making or batik printing place is at the bad.
Short staffed, government or the private company should hire better ushers who can engage with customers better to bring up their interests and spread the beauty of batik.
Good initiative but need more effort to bring out the best.
